We study the stationary problem of a charged Dirac particle in (2+1) dimensions in the presence of a uniform magnetic field B and a singular magnetic tube of flux Phi = 2 pi kappa/e. The rotational invariance of this configuration implies that the subspaces of definite angular momentum l+1/2 are invariant under the action of the Hamiltonian H. We show that, for l different from the integer part of kappa, the restriction of H to these subspaces, H_l is essentially self-adjoint, while for l equal to the integer part of kappa, H_l admits a one-parameter family of self-adjoint extensions (SAE). In the later case, the functions in the domain of H_l are singular (but square-integrable) at the origin, their behavior being dictated by the value of the parameter gamma that identifies the SAE. We also determine the spectrum of the Hamiltonian as a function of kappa and gamma, as well as its closure.

Depending on the behaviour of the complex-valued electromagnetic potential in the neighbourhood of infinity, pseudomodes of one-dimensional Dirac operators corresponding to large pseudoeigenvalues are constructed. This is a first systematic non-semi- classical approach, which results in substantial progress in achieving optimal conditions and conclusions as well as in covering a wide class of previously inaccessible potentials, including superexponential ones.
In this work, we review two methods used to approach singular Hamiltonians in (2+1) dimensions. Both methods are based on the self-adjoint extension approach. It is very common to find singular Hamiltonians in quantum mechanics, especially in quantum systems in the presence of topological defects, which are usually modelled by point interactions. In general, it is possible to apply some kind of regularization procedure, as the vanishing of the wave function at the location of the singularity, ensuring that the wave function is square-integrable and then can be associated with a physical state. However, a study based on the self-adjoint extension approach can lead to more general boundary conditions that still gives acceptable physical states. We exemplify the methods by exploring the bound and scattering scenarios of a spin 1/2 charged particle with an anomalous magnetic moment in the Aharonov-Bohm potential in the conical space.
We develop a general technique for finding self-adjoint extensions of a symmetric operator that respect a given set of its symmetries. Problems of this type naturally arise when considering two- and three-dimensional Schrodinger operators with singul ar potentials. The approach is based on constructing a unitary transformation diagonalizing the symmetries and reducing the initial operator to the direct integral of a suitable family of partial operators. We prove that symmetry preserving self-adjoint extensions of the initial operator are in a one-to-one correspondence with measurable families of self-adjoint extensions of partial operators obtained by reduction. The general construction is applied to the three-dimensional Aharonov-Bohm Hamiltonian describing the electron in the magnetic field of an infinitely thin solenoid.
We study the nonrelativistic quantum Coulomb hamiltonian (i.e., inverse of distance potential) in $R^n$, n = 1, 2, 3. We characterize their self-adjoint extensions and, in the unidimensional case, present a discussion of controversies in the literatu re, particularly the question of the permeability of the origin. Potentials given by fundamental solutions of Laplace equation are also briefly considered.

We study the Harmonic and Dirac Oscillator problem extended to a three-dimensional noncom- mutative space where the noncommutativity is induced by a shift of the dynamical variables with generators of SL(2;R) in a unitary irreducible representation. The Hilbert space gets the structure of a direct product with the representation space as a factor, where there exist operators which realize the algebra of Lorentz transformations. The spectrum of these models are considered in perturbation theory, both for small and large noncommutativity parameters, finding no constraints between coordinates and momenta noncom- mutativity parameters. Since the representation space of the unitary irreducible representations SL(2;R) can be realized in terms of spaces of square-integrable functions, we conclude that these models are equivalent to quantum mechanical models of particles living in a space with an additional compact dimension.
