The hydrostatic pressure effect on the newly discovered superconductor MgB2 has been determined. The transition temperature Tc was found to decrease linearly at a large rate of -1.6 K/GPa, in good quantitative agreement with the ensuing calculated value of -1.4 K/GPa within the BCS framework by Loa and Syassen, using the full-potential linearlized augmented plane-wave method. The relative pressure coefficient, dlnTc/dp, for MgB2 also falls between the known values for conventional sp- and d-superconductors. The observation, therefore, suggests that electron-phonon interaction plays a significant role in the superconductivity of the compound.

We report studies on pressure dependence of superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of LaFeAsO, LaFeAs(O0.5F0.5) and LaFeAs(O0.89F0.11) samples. In-situ resistance measurements under high pressure showed that the Tc of these three compounds incre ases with pressure initially, reaches a maximum value and then decreases with further increasing pressure, although the Tc at ambient pressure are different. The onset Tc of LaFeAsO is ~50 K at 1.5 GPa, which is the highest record in La-based oxypnicited system. The significant change in Tc induced by pressure is attributed to the orbital degeneracy and the electron density of state at the Fermi level.
Superconducting and structural phase transitions in a pyrochlore oxide Cd2Re2O7 are studied under high pressure by x-ray diffraction and electrical resistivity measurements. A rich P-T phase diagram is obtained, which contains at least two phases wit h the ideal and slightly distorted pyrochlore structures. It is found that the transition between them is suppressed with increasing pressure and finally disappears at a critical pressure Pc = 3.5 GPa. Remarkable enhancements in the residual resistivity as well as the coefficient A of the AT 2 term in the resistivity are found around the critical pressure. Superconductivity is detected only for the phase with the structural distortion. It is suggested that the charge fluctuations of Re ions play a crucial role in determining the electronic properties of Cd2Re2O7.
We report measurements of the superconducting critical temperature Tc of polycrystalline MgB2 samples containing isotopically pure (10)B and (11)B under quasi-hydrostatic pressure conditions in He pressure media up to 44 GPa. Measurements to volume c ompressions V/V_0 ~ 0.82 allow us to observe a kink in the volume dependence of Tc for Mg(10)B2 (at 20 GPa) and Mg(11)B2 (at 15 GPa). The pressure dependence of the E(2g) mode also changes abruptly around 20 GPa for the Mg(10)B2 sample. The anharmonic character of the E(2g) phonon mode and anomalies in Tc pressure dependence are interpreted as the result of a phonon-assisted Lifshitz electronic topological transition.

The evolution of the superconducting properties of the carbon-doped MgB2 superconductors, MgB(2-x)Cx (x= 0.02, 0.04, 0.06) have been investigated by the transverse-field muon spin rotation (TF-muSR) technique. The low-temperature depolarisation rate, sigma(0) at 0.6 T which is proportional to the second moment of the field distribution of the vortex lattice decreases monotonically with increasing electron doping and decreasing Tc. In addition, the temperature dependence of sigma(T) has been analysed in terms of a two-gap model. The size of the two superconducting gaps decreases linearly as the carbon content increases, while the doping effect is more pronounced for the smaller gap related to the 3D pi-sheets of the Fermi surface.
We study the effect of nano(n)-SiC addition on the crystal structure, critical temperature (Tc), critical current density (Jc) and flux pinning in MgB2 superconductor. X-ray diffraction patterns show that all the samples have MgB2 as the main phase w ith very small amount of MgO, further with n-SiC addition the presence of Mg2Si is also noted and confirmed by SEM & EDS. The Tc value for the pure MgB2 is 18.9K under 8 Tesla applied field, while is 20.8K for the 10-wt % n-SiC doped sample under the same field. This points towards the increment in upper-critical field value with n-SiC addition. The irreversibility field (Hirr) for the 5% n-SiC added sample reached 11.3, 10 and 5.8 Tesla, compared to 7.5, 6.5, and 4.2 Tesla for the pure MgB2 at 5, 10 and 20K respectively. The critical current density (Jc) for the 5-wt % n-SiC added sample is increased by a factor of 35 at 10K and 6.5 Tesla field and by a factor 20 at 20K and 4.2 Tesla field. These results are understood on the basis of superconducting condensate (sigma band) disorder and ensuing intrinsic pining due to B site C substitution clubbed with further external pinning due to available n-SiC/Mg2Si pins in the composite system.
