We have undertaken a thorough dynamical investigation of five extrasolar planetary systems using extensive numerical experiments. The systems Gl 777 A, HD 72659, Gl 614, 47 Uma and HD 4208 were examined concerning the question of whether they could host terrestrial like planets in their habitable zones (=HZ). First we investigated the mean motion resonances between fictitious terrestrial planets and the existing gas giants in these five extrasolar systems. Then a fine grid of initial conditions for a potential terrestrial planet within the HZ was chosen for each system, from which the stability of orbits was then assessed by direct integrations over a time interval of 1 million years. The computations were carried out using a Lie-series integration method with an adaptive step size control. This integration method achieves machine precision accuracy in a highly efficient and robust way, requiring no special adjustments when the orbits have large eccentricities. The stability of orbits was examined with a determination of the Renyi entropy, estimated from recurrence plots, and with a more straight forward method based on the maximum eccentricity achieved by the planet over the 1 million year integration. Additionally, the eccentricity is an indication of the habitability of a terrestrial planet in the HZ; any value of e>0.2 produces a significant temperature difference on a planets surface between apoapse and periapse. The results for possible stable orbits for terrestrial planets in habitable zones for the five systems are summarized as follows: for Gl 777 A nearly the entire HZ is stable, for 47 Uma, HD 72659 and HD 4208 terrestrial planets can survive for a sufficiently long time, while for Gl 614 our results exclude terrestrial planets moving in stable orbits within the HZ.

We present the discovery of two planets orbiting the nearby (D=11.9 pc) K7 dwarf Gl 414A. Gl 414A b is a sub-Neptune mass planet with M$_b sin{i_b} = 9.28^{+3.19}_{-2.54}$ M$_oplus$ and a semi-major axis of 0.24 $pm$ 0.01 au. Gl 414A c is a sub-Satur n mass planet with $M_c sin{i_c} = 59.48^{+9.98}_{-9.69}$ M$_oplus$ and a semi-major axis of 1.43 $pm$ 0.06 au. We jointly analyzed radial velocity data from Keck/HIRES and the Automated Planet Finder at Lick Observatory, as well as photometric data from KELT, to detect the two planets as well as two additional signals related to the rotationally-modulated activity and the long term magnetic activity cycle of the star. The outer planet in this system may be a potential candidate for future direct imaging missions.

We investigated the apsidal motion for the multi-planet systems. In the simulations, we found that the two planets of HD 37124, HD 12661, 47 Uma and HD 82943 separately undergo apsidal alignment or antialignment. But the companions of GJ 876 and $ups ilon$ And are only in apsidal lock about $0^{circ}$. Moreover, we obtained the criteria with Laplace-Lagrange secular theory to discern whether a pair of planets for a certain system are in libration or circulation.

We present multi-epoch infrared photometry and spectroscopy obtained with warm Spitzer, Subaru and SOFIA to assess variability for the young ($sim$20 Myr) and dusty debris systems around HD 172555 and HD 113766A. No variations (within 0.5%) were foun d for the former at either 3.6 or 4.5 $mu$m, while significant non-periodic variations (peak-to-peak of $sim$10-15% relative to the primary star) were detected for the latter. Relative to the Spitzer IRS spectra taken in 2004, multi-epoch mid-infrared spectra reveal no change in either the shape of the prominent 10 $mu$m solid-state features or the overall flux levels (no more than 20%) for both systems, corroborating that the population of sub-$mu$m-sized grains that produce the pronounced solid-state features is stable over a decadal timescale. We suggest that these sub-$mu$m-sized grains were initially generated in an optically thick clump of debris of mm-sized vapor condensates resulting from a recent violent impact between large asteroidal or planetary bodies. Because of the shielding from the stellar photons provided by this clump, intense collisions led to an over-production of fine grains that would otherwise be ejected from the system by radiation pressure. As the clump is sheared by its orbital motion and becomes optically thin, a population of very fine grains could remain in stable orbits until Poynting-Robertson drag slowly spirals them into the star. We further suggest that the 3-5 $mu$m disk variation around HD 113766A is consistent with a clump/arc of such fine grains on a modestly eccentric orbit in its terrestrial zone.

We present two confirmed wide separation L-dwarf common proper motion companions to nearby stars and one candidate identified from the Two Micron All Sky Survey. Spectral types from optical spectroscopy are L0 V, L2.5 V, and L8 V. Near-infrared low r esolution spectra of the companions are provided as well as a grid of known objects spanning M6 V -- T dwarfs to support spectral type assignment for these and future L-dwarfs in the zJHK bands. Using published measurements, we estimate ages of the companions from physical properties of the primaries. These crude ages allow us to estimate companion masses using theoretical low-mass star and brown dwarf evolutionary models. The new L-dwarfs in this paper bring the number of known wide-binary (Separation >= 100 AU) L-dwarf companions of nearby stars to nine. One of the L-dwarfs is a wide separation companion to the F7 IV-V + extrasolar planet system HD89744Ab.
The presented work investigates the possible formation of terrestrial planets in the habitable zone (HZ) of the exoplanetary system HD 141399. In this system the HZ is located approximately between the planets c (a = 0.7 au) and d (a = 2.1 au). Exten sive numerical integrations of the equations of motion in the pure Newtonian framework of small bodies with different initial conditions in the HZ are performed. Our investigations included several steps starting with 500 massless bodies distributed between planets c and d in order to model the development of the disk of small bodies. It turns out that after some 10^6 years a belt-like structure analogue to the main belt inside Jupiter in our Solar System appears. We then proceed with giving the small bodies masses (Moon-mass) and take into account the gravitational interaction between these planetesimal-like objects. The growing of the objects - with certain percentage of water - due to collisions is computed in order to look for the formation of terrestrial planets. We observe that planets form in regions connected to mean motion resonances (MMR). So far there is no observational evidence of terrestrial planets in the system of HD 141399 but from our results we can conclude that the formation of terrestrial planets - even with an appropriate amount of water necessary for being habitable - in the HZ would have been possible.
