The extraction of nonstationary signals from blind and semi-blind multivariate observations is a recurrent problem. Numerous algorithms have been developed for this problem, which are based on the exact or approximate joint diagonalization of second or higher order cumulant matrices/tensors of multichannel data. While a great body of research has been dedicated to joint diagonalization algorithms, the selection of the diagonalized matrix/tensor set remains highly problem-specific. Herein, various methods for nonstationarity identification are reviewed and a new general framework based on hypothesis testing is proposed, which results in a classification/clustering perspective to semi-blind source separation of nonstationary components. The proposed method is applied to noninvasive fetal ECG extraction, as case study.
We develop a unified approach to hypothesis testing for various types of widely used functional linear models, such as scalar-on-function, function-on-function and function-on-scalar models. In addition, the proposed test applies to models of mixed t
In this work, we consider the problem of blind source separation (BSS) by departing from the usual linear model and focusing on the linear-quadratic (LQ) model. We propose two provably robust and computationally tractable algorithms to tackle this pr
In this paper, we consider the problem of distributed sequential detection using wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in the presence of imperfect communication channels between the sensors and the fusion center (FC). We assume that sensor observations ar
Multivariate measurements taken at irregularly sampled locations are a common form of data, for example in geochemical analysis of soil. In practical considerations predictions of these measurements at unobserved locations are of great interest. For
Radio tomographic imaging (RTI) is an emerging technology for localization of physical objects in a geographical area covered by wireless networks. With attenuation measurements collected at spatially distributed sensors, RTI capitalizes on spatial l
