We investigate the influence of Kondo effect, namely, the nonperturbative effect induced by heavy impurities, on the chiral separation effect (CSE) in quark matter. We employ a simple effective model incorporating the Kondo condensate made of a light quark and a heavy quark, and compute the response function of axial current to the magnetic field in static limit and dynamical limit. As a result, we find that the Kondo effect catalyzes the CSE in both the limits, and particularly the CSE in dynamical limit can be enhanced by a factor of approximately three. Our findings clearly show that the presence of heavy impurities in quark matter can play an important role in the transport phenomena of light quarks induced by a magnetic field.

We discuss chiral separation effect in the systems with spatial non - homogeneity. It may be caused by non - uniform electric potential or by another reasons, which do not, however, break chiral symmetry of an effective low energy theory. Such low en ergy effective theory describes quasiparticles close to the Fermi surfaces. In the presence of constant external magnetic field the non - dissipative axial current appears. It appears that its response to chemical potential and magnetic field (the CSE conductivity) is universal. It is robust to smooth modifications of the system and is expressed through an integral over a surface in momentum space that surrounds all singularities of the Green function. In itself this expression represents an extension of the topological invariant protecting Fermi points to the case of inhomogeneous systems.

Chiral anomaly is a very fundamental aspect of quantum theories with chiral fermion, from the Standard Model to supersymmetric field theories or even string theories. How such microscopic anomaly manifests itself in a macroscopic many-body system wit h chiral fermions, is a highly nontrivial question that has recently attracted significant interest. As it turns out, unusual transport currents can be induced by chiral anomaly under suitable conditions in such systems, with the notable example of the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME) where a vector current (e.g. electric current) is generated along an external magnetic field. The CME has been enthusiastically studied in two very different physical systems: the Dirac and Weyl semimetals in condensed matter physics as well as the quark-gluon plasma in heavy ion collisions. In this contribution, we report the latest theoretical and experimental status for the search of CME in heavy ion collisions.

We study coefficients of axial chiral vortical effect and chiral separation effect at finite temperature and vector chemical potential in massive theories. We present two independent methods of calculating the coefficients: one from field theory and the other using the mass term in axial anomaly equation. An ambiguity in the integration constant similar to hydrodynamic approach to axial chiral vortical effect exists in the latter, but can be fixed naturally in the presence of mass. We obtain perfect agreement between the methods. The results of axial chiral vortical effect and chiral separation effect indicate that the presence of mass generically suppresses the two coefficients, with less suppression at larger chemical potential. For phenomenologically relevant case of quark gluon plasma with three quark flavor, we find the correction is negligible.

We revisit the chiral kinetic equation from high density effective theory approach, finding a chiral kinetic equation differs from counterpart derived from field theory in high order terms in the $O(1/mu)$ expansion, but in agreement with the equatio n derived in on-shell effective field theory upon identification of cutoff. By using reparametrization transformation properties of the effective theory, we show that the difference in kinetic equations from two approaches are in fact expected. It is simply due to different choices of degree of freedom by effective theory and field theory. We also show that they give equivalent description of the dynamics of chiral fermions.

The rotation of polarization occurs for light interacting with chiral materials. It requires the light states with opposite chiralities interact differently with the materials. We demonstrate analogous rotation of polarization also exists for chiral fermions interacting with quantum electrodynamics plasma with vorticity using chiral kinetic theory. We find that the rotation of polarization is perpendicular both to vorticity and fermion momentum. The effect also exists for chiral fermions in quantum chromodynamics plasma with vorticity. It could lead to generation of a vector current when the probe fermions contain momentum anisotropy.
