The identification of anomalies is a critical component of operating complex, and possibly large-scale and geo-graphically distributed cyber-physical systems. While designing anomaly detectors, it is common to assume Gaussian noise models to maintain tractability; however, this assumption can lead to the actual false alarm rate being significantly higher than expected. Here we design a distributionally robust threshold of detection using finite and fixed higher-order moments of the detection measure data such that it guarantees the actual false alarm rate to be upper bounded by the desired one. Further, we bound the states reachable through the action of a stealthy attack and identify the trade-off between this impact of attacks that cannot be detected and the worst-case false alarm rate. Through numerical experiments, we illustrate how knowledge of higher-order moments results in a tightened threshold, thereby restricting an attackers potential impact.

Given a stochastic dynamical system modelled via stochastic differential equations (SDEs), we evaluate the safety of the system through characterisations of its exit time moments. We lift the (possibly nonlinear) dynamics into the space of the occupa tion and exit measures to obtain a set of linear evolution equations which depend on the infinitesimal generator of the SDE. Coupled with appropriate semidefinite positive matrix constraints, this yields a moment-based approach for the computation of exit time moments of SDEs with polynomial drift and diffusion dynamics. To extend the capability of the moment approach, we propose a state augmentation method which allows us to generate the evolution equations for a broader class of nonlinear stochastic systems and apply the moment method to previously unsupported dynamics. In particular, we show a general augmentation strategy for sinusoidal dynamics which can be found in most physical systems. We employ the methodology on an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process and stochastic spring-mass-damper model to characterise their safety via their expected exit times and show the additional exit distribution insights that are afforded through higher order moments.
The distributed cooperative controllers for inverter-based systems rely on communication networks that make them vulnerable to cyber anomalies. In addition, the distortion effects of such anomalies may also propagate throughout inverter-based cyber-p hysical systems due to the cooperative cyber layer. In this paper, an intelligent anomaly mitigation technique for such systems is presented utilizing data driven artificial intelligence tools that employ artificial neural networks. The proposed technique is implemented in secondary voltage control of distributed cooperative control-based microgrid, and results are validated by comparison with existing distributed secondary control and real-time simulations on real-time simulator OPAL-RT.
We consider the problem of under and over-approximating the image of general vector-valued functions over bounded sets, and apply the proposed solution to the estimation of reachable sets of uncertain non-linear discrete-time dynamical systems. Such a combination of under and over-approximations is very valuable for the verification of properties of embedded and cyber-physical controlled systems. Over-approximations prove properties correct, while under-approximations can be used for falsification. Coupled, they provide a measure of the conservatism of the analysis. This work introduces a general framework relying on computations of robust ranges of vector-valued functions. This framework allows us to extend for under-approximation many precision refinements that are classically used for over-approximations, such as affine approximations, Taylor models, quadrature formulae and preconditioning methods. We end by evaluating the efficiency and precision of our approach, focusing on the application to the analysis of discrete-time dynamical systems with inputs and disturbances, on different examples from the literature.
This paper presents a control strategy based on time-varying fixed-time convergent higher order control barrier functions for a class of leader-follower multi-agent systems under signal temporal logic (STL) tasks. Each agent is assigned a local STL t ask which may be dependent on the behavior of agents involved in other tasks. In each local task, one agent called the leader has knowledge on the associated tasks and controls the performance of the subgroup involved agents. Our approach finds a robust solution to guarantee the fixed-time satisfaction of STL tasks in a least violating way and independent of the agents initial conditions. In particular, the robust performance of the task satisfaction is based on the knowledge of the leader from the followers and can be adjusted in a user-specified way.
This paper aims to propose a novel large-signal order reduction (LSOR) approach for microgrids (MG) by embedding a stability and accuracy assessment theorem. Different from the existing order reduction methods, the proposed approach prevails mainly i n two aspects. Firstly, the dynamic stability of full-order MG models can be assessed by only leveraging their derived reduced-order models and boundary layer models with our method. Specially, when the reduced-order system is input-to-state stable and the boundary layer system is uniformly globally asymptotically stable, the original MGs system can be proved to be stable under several common growth conditions. Secondly, a set of accuracy assessment criterion is developed and embedded into a tailored feedback mechanism to guarantee the accuracy of derived reduced model. It is proved that the errors between solutions of reduced and original models are bounded and convergent under such conditions. Strict mathematical proof for the proposed stability and accuracy assessment theorem is provided. The proposed LSOR method is generic and can be applied to arbitrary dynamic systems. Multiple case studies are conducted on MG systems to show the effectiveness of proposed approach.
