The study presented hereafter shows a new methodology to reveal traces of polyethylene (the most common microplastic particles, known as a structure of C_2 H_4) in a sample of ocean water by the irradiation of a 50 keV, 1 uA electron beam. This is performed by analyzing the photon (produced by the electrons in water ) fluxes and spectra (i.e. fluxes as a function of photon energy) at different types of contaminated water with an adequate device and in particular looking at the peculiar interactions of electrons/photons with the potential abnormal atomic hydrogen (H), oxygen (O), carbon (C), phosphorus (P) compositions present in the water, as a function of living and not living organic organisms with a PO4 group RNA/DNA strands in a cluster configuration through a volumetric cells grid.

With the intention of creating a complete simulation of the Thick GEM detector, this work presents a partial simulation of the interaction of 6 keV X-Ray radiation with a gas volume. For the gas, it was used pure Argon, Xenon and CO2 as well as a mix ture of each noble gas with CO2 in a 70%-30% proportion. For this range of energy, the dominant physical effect is the photoelectric, therefore knowing the binding energies of the atoms we predict the kinetic energy of the primary electron. A simulated energy spectrum of the primary electron kinetic energy was obtained, which contains peaks corresponding to the inner shells ionization of the atoms. The spectrum shows very little Compton effect, transferring only small energies (in the order of eVs). We concluded that energy spectrum for the mixture is a linear combination of the spectrum of its individual components.

A novel interferometric method for absolute beam energy measurement is under development at MAMI. At the moment, the method is tested and optimized at an energy of 195 MeV. Despite the very small statistical uncertainty of the method, systematic effe cts have limited the overall accuracy. Recently, a measurement has been performed dedicated to the evaluation of these effects. This report comprises a description of the method and results of the recent data taking period.
A performance evaluation of superconducting transition-edge sensors (TESs) in the environment of a pion beam line at a particle accelerator is presented. Averaged across the 209 functioning sensors in the array, the achieved energy resolution is 5.2 eV FWHM at Co $K_{alpha}$ (6.9 keV) when the pion beam is off and 7.3 eV at a beam rate of 1.45 MHz. Absolute energy uncertainty of $pm$0.04 eV is demonstrated for Fe $K_{alpha}$ (6.4 keV) with in-situ energy calibration obtained from other nearby known x-ray lines. To achieve this small uncertainty, it is essential to consider the non-Gaussian energy response of the TESs and thermal cross-talk pile-up effects due to charged-particle hits in the silicon substrate of the TES array.
A prototype for a sampling calorimeter made out of cerium fluoride crystals interleaved with tungsten plates, and read out by wavelength-shifting fibres, has been exposed to beams of electrons with energies between 20 and 150 GeV, produced by the CER N Super Proton Synchrotron accelerator complex. The performance of the prototype is presented and compared to that of a Geant4 simulation of the apparatus. Particular emphasis is given to the response uniformity across the channel front face, and to the prototypes energy resolution.
A novel interferometric method is presented for the measurement of the absolute energy of electron beams. In the year 2016, a pioneering experiment was performed using a 195 MeV beam of the Mainz Microtron (MAMI). The experimental setup consisted of two collinear magnetic undulators as sources of coherent optical synchrotron light and a high-resolving grating monochromator. Beam energy measurements required the variation of the relative undulator distance in the decimeter range and the analysis of the intensity oscillation length in the interference spectrum. A statistical precision of 1 keV was achieved in 1 hour of data taking, while systematic uncertainties of 700 keV were present in the experiment. These developments aim for a relative precision of $10^{-5}$ in the absolute momentum calibrations of spectrometers and high-precision hypernuclear experiments. Other electron accelerators with beam energies in this regime such as the Mainz Energy Recovering Superconducting Accelerator (MESA) might benefit from this new method.
