We show that every compact, unitary two-dimensional CFT with an abelian conserved current has vanishing twist gap for charged primary fields with respect to the $mathfrak{u}(1)times$Virasoro algebra. This means that either the chiral algebra is enhanced by a charged primary field with zero twist or there is an infinite family of charged primary fields that accumulate to zero twist.

We investigate symmetry breaking in two-dimensional field theories which have a holographic gravity dual. Being at large N, the Coleman theorem does not hold and Goldstone bosons are expected. We consider the minimal setup to describe a conserved cur rent and a charged operator, and we perform holographic renormalization in order to find the correct Ward identities describing symmetry breaking. This involves some subtleties related to the different boundary conditions that a vector can have in the three-dimensional bulk. We establish which is the correct prescription that yields, after renormalization, the same Ward identities as in higher dimensions.
We extend and develop a method for perturbative calculations of anomalous dimensions and mixing matrices of leading twist conformal primary operators in conformal field theories. Such operators lie on the unitarity bound and hence are conserved (irre ducible) in the free theory. The technique relies on the known pattern of breaking of the irreducibility conditions in the interacting theory. We relate the divergence of the conformal operators via the field equations to their descendants involving an extra field and accompanied by an extra power of the coupling constant. The ratio of the two-point functions of descendants and of their primaries determines the anomalous dimension, allowing us to gain an order of perturbation theory. We demonstrate the efficiency of the formalism on the lowest-order analysis of anomalous dimensions and mixing matrices which is required for two-loop calculations of the former. We compare these results to another method based on anomalous conformal Ward identities and constraints from the conformal algebra. It also permits to gain a perturbative order in computations of mixing matrices. We show the complete equivalence of both approaches.

In this note we study chaos in generic quantum systems with a global symmetry generalizing seminal work [arXiv : 1503.01409] by Maldacena, Shenker and Stanford. We conjecture a bound on instantaneous chaos exponent in a thermodynamic ensemble at temp erature $T$ and chemical potential $mu$ for the continuous global symmetry under consideration. For local operators which could create excitation up to some fixed charge, the bound on chaos (Lyapunov) exponent is independent of chemical potential $lambda_L leq frac{2 pi T}{ hbar} $. On the other hand when the operators could create excitation of arbitrary high charge, we find that exponent must satisfy $lambda_L leq frac{2 pi T}{(1-|frac{mu}{mu_c}|) hbar} $, where $mu_c$ is the maximum value of chemical potential for which the thermodynamic ensemble makes sense. As specific examples of quantum mechanical systems we consider conformal field theories. In a generic conformal field theory with internal $U(1)$ symmetry living on a cylinder the former bound is applicable, whereas in more interesting examples of holographic two dimensional conformal field theories dual to Einstein gravity, we argue that later bound is saturated in presence of a non-zero chemical potential for rotation.

We consider folded spinning strings in AdS_5xS^5 (with one spin component S in AdS_5 and J in S^5) corresponding to the Tr(D^S Z^J) operators in the sl(2) sector of the N=4 SYM theory in the special scaling limit in which both the string mass M ~ sqr t lambda ln S and J are sent to infinity with their ratio fixed. Expanding in the parameter el= J/M we compute the 2-loop string sigma model correction to the string energy and show that it agrees with the expression proposed by Alday and Maldacena in arxiv:0708.0672. We suggest that a resummation of the logarithmic el^2 ln^n el terms is necessary in order to establish an interpolation to the weakly coupled gauge theory results. In the process, we set up a general framework for the calculation of higher loop corrections to the energy of multi-spin string configurations. In particular, we find that in addition to the direct 2-loop term in the string energy there is a contribution from lower loop order due to a finite ``renormalization of the relation between the parameters of the classical solution and the fixed spins, i.e. the charges of the SO(2,4) x SO(6) symmetry.
We investigate the structure of certain protected operator algebras that arise in three-dimensional N=4 superconformal field theories. We find that these algebras can be understood as a quantization of (either of) the half-BPS chiral ring(s). An impo rtant feature of this quantization is that it has a preferred basis in which the structure constants of the quantum algebra are equal to the OPE coefficients of the underlying superconformal theory. We identify several nontrivial conditions that the quantum algebra must satisfy in this basis. We consider examples of theories for which the moduli space of vacua is either the minimal nilpotent orbit of a simple Lie algebra or a Kleinian singularity. For minimal nilpotent orbits, the quantum algebras (and their preferred bases) can be uniquely determined. These algebras are related to higher spin algebras. For Kleinian singularities the algebras can be characterized abstractly - they are spherical subalgebras of symplectic reflection algebras - but the preferred basis is not easily determined. We find evidence in these examples that for a given choice of quantum algebra (defined up to a certain gauge equivalence), there is at most one choice of canonical basis. We conjecture that this is the case for general N=4 SCFTs.
