Unlike previous works, we use newer models in which we adopt updated stellar yields and prescriptions for dust production, accretion and destruction. We consider a sample of seven LGRB host galaxies. Our results suggest that two of them (GRB 050820, GRB 120815A) are star forming spheroids, two (GRB 081008, GRB 161023A) are spirals and three (GRB 090926A, GRB 050730, GRB 120327A) are irregulars. The inferred ages of the considered host galaxies span from 10 Myr to slightly more than 1 Gyr.

We also found that in some cases changing the initial mass function can give better agreement with the observed data. The calculated ages of the host galaxies span from the order of 10 Myr to little more than 1 Gyr.
We have constructed the database of stars in the local group using the extended version of the SAGA (Stellar Abundances for Galactic Archaeology) database that contains stars in 24 dwarf spheroidal galaxies and ultra faint dwarfs. The new version of the database includes more than 4500 stars in the Milky Way, by removing the previous metallicity criterion of [Fe/H] <= -2.5, and more than 6000 stars in the local group galaxies. We examined a validity of using a combined data set for elemental abundances. We also checked a consistency between the derived distances to individual stars and those to galaxies in the literature values. Using the updated database, the characteristics of stars in dwarf galaxies are discussed. Our statistical analyses of alpha-element abundances show that the change of the slope of the [alpha/Fe] relative to [Fe/H] (so-called knee) occurs at [Fe/H] = -1.0+-0.1 for the Milky Way. The knee positions for selected galaxies are derived by applying the same method. Star formation history of individual galaxies are explored using the slope of the cumulative metallicity distribution function. Radial gradients along the four directions are inspected in six galaxies where we find no direction dependence of metallicity gradients along the major and minor axes. The compilation of all the available data shows a lack of CEMP-s population in dwarf galaxies, while there may be some CEMP-no stars at [Fe/H] <~ -3 even in the very small sample. The inspection of the relationship between Eu and Ba abundances confirms an anomalously Ba-rich population in Fornax, which indicates a pre-enrichment of interstellar gas with r-process elements. We do not find any evidence of anti-correlations in O-Na and Mg-Al abundances, which characterises the abundance trends in the Galactic globular clusters.

We study the incidence rate of damped Ly-a systems associated with the host galaxies of gamma-ray bursts (GRB-host-DLAs) as functions of neutral hydrogen column density (N_HI) and projected star formation rate (SFR) using cosmological SPH simulations . Assuming that the occurrence of GRBs is correlated with the local SFR, we find that the median N_HI of GRB-host-DLAs progressively shifts to lower N_HI values with increasing redshift, and the incidence rate of GRB-host-DLAs with log N_HI > 21.0 decreases rapidly at z>=6. Our results suggest that the likelihood of observing the signature of IGM attenuation in GRB afterglows increases towards higher redshift, because it will not be blocked by the red damping wing of DLAs in the GRB host galaxies. This enhances the prospects of using high-redshift GRBs to probe the reionization history of the Universe. The overall incidence rate of GRB-host-DLAs decreases monotonically with increasing redshift, whereas that of QSO-DLAs increases up to z=6. A measurement of the difference between the two incidence rates would enable an estimation of the value of eta_grb, which is the mass fraction of stars that become GRBs for a given amount of star formation. Our predictions can be tested by upcoming high-z GRB missions, including JANUS (Joint Astrophysics Nascent Universe Scout) and SVOM (Space multi-band Variable Object Monitor).

A tutorial for the Stellar Abundances for Galactic Archaeology (SAGA) database is presented. This paper describes the outline of the database, reports the current status of the data compilation and known problems, and presents plans for future updates and extensions.
We built a grid of photoionization models and compiled already available observational emission line intensities ($rm 1000 : < : lambda(AA) : < : 2000$) of confirmed star formation regions and Active Galactic Nucleus (AGNs) in order to classify five Ly$alpha$ emitter (LAE) objects at high redshift $(5.7 : < : z : < :7.2)$. We selected objects for which at least one metal emission-line was measured. The resulting sample is composed by the objects RXCJ2248.7-4431-ID3, HSCJ233408+004403, COSY, A1703-zd6, and CR7 (clump C). The photoionization models were built assuming a Power Law (associated with the presence of an AGN), a Direct Collapse Black Hole (DCBH), and Population II stars for the ionizing source. The resulting models were then compared with observational emission-line ratios in six diagnostic diagrams to produce a spectral classification of the sample. We found that CR7 (clump C), HSCJ233408+004403 and COSY probably have a non thermal ionizing source (AGN or DCBH) while the RXC J2248.7-4431-ID3 and A1703-zd6 seem to host a stellar cluster. Detailed photoionization models were constructed to reproduce observational emission line ratios of the sample of LAEs, and to derive chemical abundances and number of ionizing photons $Q(rm H)$ of these objects. From these models, we found metallicities in the range $(Z/Z_{odot})=0.1-0.5$ and $log Q(rm H) : > : 53$. Values for C/O abundance ratio derived for the LAEs seem to be consistent with those derived for local star forming objects with similar metallicities, while an overabundance of N/O was found for most of the LAEs.
