We study reversible deterministic dynamics of classical charged particles on a lattice with hard-core interaction. It is rigorously shown that the system exhibits three types of transport phenomena, ranging from ballistic, through diffusive to insulating. By obtaining an exact expressions for the current time-autocorrelation function we are able to calculate the linear response transport coefficients, such as the diffusion constant and the Drude weight. Additionally, we calculate the long- time charge profile after an inhomogeneous quench and obtain diffusive profile with the Green-Kubo diffusion constant. Exact analytical results are corroborated by Monte-Carlo simulations.

More than 30 years ago Edwards and co-authors proposed a model to describe the statistics of granular packings by an ensemble of equiprobable jammed states. Experimental tests of this model remained scarce so far. We introduce a simple system to anal yze statistical properties of jammed granular ensembles to test Edwards theory. Identical spheres packed in a nearly two-dimensional geometrical confinement were studied in experiments and numerical simulations. When tapped, the system evolves towards a ground state, but due to incompatible domain structures it gets trapped. Analytical calculations reproduce relatively well our simulation results, which allows us to test Edwards theory on a coupled system of two subsystems with different properties. We find that the joint system can only be described by the Edwards theory if considered as a single system due to the constraints in the stresses. The results show counterintuitive effects as in the coupled system the change in the order parameter is opposite to what is expected from the change in the compactivity.

We consider the effects of long-range temporal correlations in many-particle systems, focusing particularly on fluctuations about the typical behaviour. For a specific class of memory dependence we discuss the modification of the large deviation prin ciple describing the probability of rare currents and show how superdiffusive behaviour can emerge. We illustrate the general framework with detailed calculations for a memory-dependent version of the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process as well as indicating connections to other recent work.
Driven particles in presence of crowded environment, obstacles or kinetic constraints often exhibit negative differential mobility (NDM) due to their decreased dynamical activity. We propose a new mechanism for complex many-particle systems where slo wing down of certain {it non-driven} degrees of freedom by the external field can give rise to NDM. This phenomenon, resulting from inter-particle interactions, is illustrated in a pedagogical example of two interacting random walkers, one of which is biased by an external field while the same field only slows down the other keeping it unbiased. We also introduce and solve exactly the steady state of several driven diffusive systems, including a two species exclusion model, asymmetric misanthrope and zero-range processes, to show explicitly that this mechanism indeed leads to NDM.

Driven diffusive systems constitute paradigmatic models of nonequilibrium physics. Among them, a driven lattice gas known as the asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) is the most prominent example for which many intriguing exact results have bee n obtained. After summarizing key findings, including the mapping of the ASEP to quantum spin chains, we discuss the recently introduced Brownian asymmetric simple exclusion process (BASEP) as a related class of driven diffusive system with continuous space dynamics. In the BASEP, driven Brownian motion of hardcore-interacting particles through one-dimensional periodic potentials is considered. We study whether current-density relations of the BASEP can be considered as generic for arbitrary periodic potentials and whether repulsive particle interactions other than hardcore lead to similar results. Our findings suggest that shapes of current-density relations are generic for single-well periodic potentials and can always be attributed to the interplay of a barrier reduction, blocking and exchange symmetry effect. This implies that in general up to five different phases of nonequilibrium steady states are possible for such potentials. The phases can occur in systems coupled to particle reservoirs, where the bulk density is the order parameter. For multiple-well periodic potentials, more complex current-density relations are possible and more phases can appear. Taking a repulsive Yukawa potential as an example, we show that the effects of barrier reduction and blocking on the current are also present. The exchange symmetry effect requires hardcore interactions and we demonstrate that it can still be identified when hardcore interactions are combined with weak Yukawa interactions.
