We adapt the Coupled Cluster Method to solid state strongly correlated lattice Hamiltonians extending the Coupled Cluster linear response method to the calculation of electronic spectra and obtaining the space-time Fourier transforms of generic Greens functions. We apply our method to the $MnO_2$ plane with orbital and magnetic ordering, to interpret electron energy loss experimental data, and to the Hubbard model, where we get insight into a possible pairing mechanism.

We apply Coupled Cluster Method to a strongly correlated lattice and develop the Spectral Coupled Cluster equations by finding an approximation to the resolvent operator, that gives the spectral response for an certain class of probe operators. We ap ply the method to a $MnO_2$ plane model with a parameters choice which corresponds to previous experimental works and which gives a non-nominal symmetry ground state. We show that this state can be observed using our Spectral Coupled Cluster Method by probing the Coupled Cluster solution obtained from the nominal reference state. In this case one observes a negative energy resonance which corresponds to the true ground state.
We introduce cluster-based mean-field, perturbation and coupled-cluster theories to describe the ground state of strongly-correlated spin systems. In cluster mean-field, the ground state wavefunction is written as a simple tensor product of optimized cluster states. The cluster-language and the mean-field nature of the ansatz allows for a straightforward improvement based on perturbation theory and coupled-cluster, to account for inter-cluster correlations. We present benchmark calculations on the 2D square $J_1-J_2$ Heisenberg model, using cluster mean-field, second-order perturbation theory and coupled-cluster. We also present an extrapolation scheme that allows us to compute thermodynamic limit energies very accurately. Our results indicate that, even with relatively small clusters, the correlated methods can provide an accurate description of the Heisenberg model in the regimes considered. Some ways to improve the results presented in this work are discussed.

We show how few-particle Greens functions can be calculated efficiently for models with nearest-neighbor hopping, for infinite lattices in any dimension. As an example, for one dimensional spinless fermions with both nearest-neighbor and second neare st-neighbor interactions, we investigate the ground states for up to 5 fermions. This allows us not only to find the stability region of various bound complexes, but also to infer the phase diagram at small but finite concentrations.
We calculate the single-particle spectral function for the one-band Bose-Hubbard model within the random phase approximation (RPA). In the strongly correlated superfluid, in addition to the gapless phonon excitations, we find extra gapped modes which become particularly relevant near the superfluid-Mott quantum phase transition (QPT). The strength in one of the gapped modes, a precursor of the Mott phase, grows as the QPT is approached and evolves into a hole (particle) excitation in the Mott insulator depending on whether the chemical potential is above (below) the tip of the lobe. The sound velocity of the Goldstone modes remains finite when the transition is approached at a constant density, otherwise, it vanishes at the transition. It agrees well with Bogoliubov theory except close to the transition. We also calculate the spatial correlations for bosons in an inhomogeneous trapping potential creating alternating shells of Mott insulator and superfluid. Finally, we discuss the capability of the RPA approximation to correctly account for quantum fluctuations in the vicinity of the QPT.
Potassium-doped terphenyl has recently attracted attention as a potential host for high-transition-temperature superconductivity. Here, we elucidate the many-body electronic structure of recently synthesized potassium-doped terphenyl crystals. We sho w that this system may be understood as a set of weakly coupled one-dimensional ladders. Depending on the strength of the inter-ladder coupling the system may exhibit spin-gapped valence-bond solid or antiferromagnetic phases, both of which upon hole doping may give rise to superconductivity. This terphenyl-based ladder material serves as a new platform for investigating the fate of ladder phases in presence of three-dimensional coupling as well as for novel superconductivity.
