The Zadko Telescope is a 1 m f/4 Cassegrain telescope, situated in the state of Western Australia about 80 km north of Perth. The facility plays a niche role in Australian astronomy, as it is the only meter class facility in Australia dedicated to automated follow-up imaging of alerts or triggers received from different external instruments/detectors spanning the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Furthermore the location of the facility at a longitude not covered by other meter class facilities provides an important resource for time critical projects. This paper reviews the status of the Zadko facility and science projects since it began robotic operations in March 2010. We report on major upgrades to the infrastructure and equipment (2012-2014) that has resulted in significantly improved robotic operations. Secondly, we review the core science projects, which include automated rapid follow-up of gamma ray burst (GRB) optical afterglows, imaging of neutrino counterpart candidates from the ANTARES neutrino observatory, photometry of rare (Barbarian) asteroids, supernovae searches in nearby galaxies. Finally, we discuss participation in newly commencing international projects, including the optical follow-up of gravitational wave candidates from the U.S. and European gravitational wave observatory network, and present first tests for very low latency follow-up of fast radio bursts. In the context of these projects, we outline plans for a future upgrade that will optimise the facility for alert triggered imaging from the radio, optical, high-energy, neutrino and gravitational wave bands.

The new 1-m f/4 fast-slew Zadko Telescope was installed in June 2008 about 70 km north of Perth, Western Australia. It is the only metre-class optical facility at this southern latitude between the east coast of Australia and South Africa, and can ra pidly image optical transients at a longitude not monitored by other similar facilities. We report on first imaging tests of a pilot program of minor planet searches, and Target of Opportunity observations triggered by the Swift satellite. In 12 months, 6 gamma-ray burst afterglows were detected, with estimated magnitudes; two of them, GRB 090205 (z = 4.65) and GRB 090516 (z = 4.11), are among the most distant optical transients imaged by an Australian telescope. Many asteroids were observed in a systematic 3-month search. In September 2009, an automatic telescope control system was installed, which will be used to link the facility to a global robotic telescope network; future targets will include fast optical transients triggered by highenergy satellites, radio transient detections, and LIGO gravitational wave candidate events. We also outline the importance of the facility as a potential tool for education, training, and public outreach.

The 1.0 meter f/4 fast-slew Zadko telescope is located in Western Australia, approximately seventy kilometers north of Perth at Yeal in the Shire of Gingin in a dedicated low-luminosity area. It is the only meter class optical research facility at th is southern latitude between the east coast of Australia and South Africa and can rapidly image optical transients at a longitude not monitored by other similar facilities. We review here the main results achieved during the last decade and give some points toward the goals set for future years. Finally we discuss the modifications and improvements we had to perform in the facility to reach these new goals.

The 1.0 metre f/4 fast-slew Zadko Telescope was installed in June 2008 approximately seventy kilometres north of Perth at Yeal, in the Shire of Gingin, Western Australia. Since the Zadko Telescope has been in operation it has proven its worth by dete cting numerous Gamma Ray Burst afterglows, two of these being the most distant `optical transients imaged by an Australian telescope. Other projects include a contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) to image potentially hazardous near Earth asteroids (2019), monitoring space weather on nearby stars (2019), and photometry of a transit of Saturns moon Titan (2018). Another active Zadko Telescope project is tracking Geo-stationary satellites and attempting to use photometry to classify various space debris (defunct satellites). The Zadko Telescopes importance as a potential tool for education, training, and public outreach cannot be underestimated, as the global awareness of the importance of astronomy (and space science) as a context for teaching science continues to increase. An example of this was the national media coverage of its contribution to the discovery of colliding neutron stars in 2017, capturing the imagination of the public. In this proceeding, I will focus on the practical aspects of managing a robotic Observatory, focusing on the sustainability of the Observatory and the technical management involved in hosting different commercial projects. I will review the evolution of the Observatory, from its early, single instrument, state to its current multi-telescope and multi-instrument capabilities. I will finish by outlining the future of the Observatory and the site.
We report on a search for radio transients at 340 MHz with the Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) Low band Ionospheric and Transient Experiment (VLITE). Between 2015 July 29 and 2015 September 27, operating in commensal mode, VLITE imaged approximately 28 00 pointings covering 12,000 deg$^2$ on the sky, sampling timescales ranging from tens of seconds to several hours on a daily basis. In addition, between 2015 February 25 and 2015 May 9, VLITE observed 55 epochs of roughly 2-4 hours each toward the COSMOS field. Using existing radio source catalogs we have searched all the daily VLITE images for transients, while for the COSMOS field we compared individual images and the summed image to search for new sources in repeated observations of the same field. The wide range of timescales makes VLITE sensitive to both coherent and incoherent transient source classes. No new transients are found, allowing us to set stringent upper limits on transients at milliJansky levels and at low frequencies where comparatively few such surveys have been carried out to date. An all-sky isotropic rate of bursting radio transients with similar rates, duration, and intensity as the unusual transient GCRT J1745$-$3009, discovered in wide-field monitoring toward the Galactic center, is ruled out with high confidence. The resulting non-detections allows us to argue that this is a coherent source, whose properties most resemble the growing class of nulling pulsars. We end with a discussion of the future prospects for the detection of transients by VLITE and other experiments.

This white paper is a summarising report of the Forum on monitoring the transient X-ray Universe in the multi-messenger era organized by the International Space Science Institute in Beijing (ISSI-BJ) on May 6-7, 2014. Time-domain astronomy will enter a golden era towards the end of this decade with the advent of major facilities across the electromagnetic spectrum and in the multi-messenger realms of gravitational wave and neutrino. In the soft X-ray regime, the novel micro-pore lobster-eye optics provides a promising technology to realise, for the first time, focusing X-ray optics for wide-angle monitors to achieve a good combination of sensitivity and wide field of view. In this context, Einstein Probe - a soft X-ray all-sky monitor - has been proposed and selected as a candidate mission of priority in the space science programme of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This report summarises the most important science developments in this field towards 2020 and beyond and how to achieve them technologically, which were discussed at this brainstorming forum. It also introduces briefly the Einstein Probe mission, including its key science goals and mission definition, as well as some of the key technological issues.
