The non-abelian groups with abelian group of automorphisms are widely studied. Following Earnley, such groups are called Miller groups, since the first example of such a group was given by Miller in 1913. Many other examples of Miller $p$-groups have been constructed by several authors. Recently, A. Caranti [{it Israel J. Mathematics {bf 205} (2015), 235-246}] provided module theoretic methods for constructing non-special Miller $p$-groups from special Miller $p$-groups. By constructing examples, we show that these methods do not always work. We also provide a sufficient condition on special Miller $p$-group for which the methods of Caranti work.

In this note, we adapt the procedure of the Long-Moody procedure to construct linear representations of welded braid groups. We exhibit the natural setting in this context and compute the first examples of representations we obtain thanks to this met hod. We take this way also the opportunity to review the few known linear representations of welded braid groups.
We show that the Cantor-Bendixson rank of a limit group is finite as well as that of a limit group of a linear group.
A generalized Baumslag-Solitar group is the fundamental group of a graph of groups all of whose vertex and edge groups are infinite cyclic. Levitt proves that any generalized Baumslag-Solitar group has property R-infinity, that is, any automorphism h as an infinite number of twisted conjugacy classes. We show that any group quasi-isometric to a generalized Baumslag-Solitar group also has property R-infinity. This extends work of the authors proving that any group quasi-isometric to a solvable Baumslag-Solitar BS(1,n) group has property R-infinity, and relies on the classification of generalized Baumslag-Solitar groups given by Whyte.

In a recent paper by L. A. Bokut, V. V. Chaynikov and K. P. Shum in 2007, Braid group $B_n$ is represented by Artin-Buraus relations. For such a representation, it is told that all other compositions can be checked in the same way. In this note, we support this claim and check all compositions.

In a 2004 article, Udo Baumgartner and George Willis used ideas from the structure theory of totally disconnected, locally compact groups to achieve a better understanding of the contraction group U_f associated with an automorphism f of such a group G, assuming that G is metrizable. (Recall that U_f consists of all group elements x such that f^n(x) tends to the identity element as n tends to infinity). Recently, Wojciech Jaworski showed that the main technical tool of the latter article remains valid in the non-metrizable case. He asserted without proof that, therefore, all results from that article remain valid. However, metrizability enters the arguments at a second point. In this note, we resolve this difficulty, by providing an affirmative answer to a question posed by Willis in 2004.
