We discuss the non-self-averaging phenomena in the critical point of weakly disordered Ising ferromagnet. In terms of the renormalized replica Ginzburg-Landau Hamiltonian in dimensions D <4, we derive an explicit expression for the probability distribution function (PDF) of the critical free energy fluctuations. In particular, using known fixed-point values for the renormalized coupling parameters, we obtain the universal curve for such PDF in the dimension D=3. It is demonstrated that this function is strongly asymmetric: its left tail is much slower than the right one.

We study sample-to-sample fluctuations in a critical two-dimensional Ising model with quenched random ferromagnetic couplings. Using replica calculations in the renormalization group framework we derive explicit expressions for the probability distri bution function of the critical internal energy and for the specific heat fluctuations. It is shown that the disorder distribution of internal energies is Gaussian, and the typical sample-to-sample fluctuations as well as the average value scale with the system size $L$ like $sim L lnln(L)$. In contrast, the specific heat is shown to be self-averaging with a distribution function that tends to a $delta$-peak in the thermodynamic limit $L to infty$. While previously a lack of self-averaging was found for the free energy, we here obtain results for quantities that are directly measurable in simulations, and implications for measurements in the actual lattice system are discussed.
We present a complementary estimation of the critical exponent $alpha$ of the specific heat of the 5D random-field Ising model from zero-temperature numerical simulations. Our result $alpha = 0.12(2)$ is consistent with the estimation coming from the modified hyperscaling relation and provides additional evidence in favor of the recently proposed restoration of dimensional reduction in the random-field Ising model at $D = 5$.
The bond-propagation (BP) algorithm for the specific heat of the two dimensional Ising model is developed and that for the internal energy is completed. Using these algorithms, we study the critical internal energy and specific heat of the model on t he square lattice and triangular lattice with free boundaries. Comparing with previous works [X.-T. Wu {it et al} Phys. Rev. E {bf 86}, 041149 (2012) and Phys. Rev. E {bf 87}, 022124 (2013)], we reach much higher accuracy ($10^{-26}$) of the internal energy and specific heat, compared to the accuracy $10^{-11}$ of the internal energy and $10^{-9}$ of the specific heat reached in the previous works. This leads to much more accurate estimations of the edge and corner terms. The exact values of some edge and corner terms are therefore conjectured. The accurate forms of finite-size scaling for the internal energy and specific heat are determined for the rectangle-shaped square lattice with various aspect ratios and various shaped triangular lattice. For the rectangle-shaped square and triangular lattices and the triangle-shaped triangular lattice, there is no logarithmic correction terms of order higher than 1/S, with S the area of the system. For the triangular lattice in rhombus, trapezoid and hexagonal shapes, there exist logarithmic correction terms of order higher than 1/S for the internal energy, and logarithmic correction terms of all orders for the specific heat.
The standard phase-ordering process is obtained by quenching a system, like the Ising model, to below the critical point. This is usually done with periodic boundary conditions to insure ergodicity breaking in the low temperature phase. With this arr angement the infinite system is known to remain permanently out of equilibrium, i.e. there exists a well defined asymptotic state which is time-invariant but different from the ordered ferromagnetic state. In this paper we establish the critical nature of this invariant state, by demonstrating numerically that the quench dynamics with periodic and antiperiodic boundary conditions are indistinguishable one from the other. However while the asymptotic state does not coincide with the equilibrium state for the periodic case, it coincides instead with the equilibrium state of the antiperiodic case, which in fact is critical. The specific example of the Ising model is shown to be one instance of a more general phenomenon, since an analogous picture emerges in the spherical model, where boundary conditions are kept fixed to periodic, while the breaking or preserving of ergodicity is managed by imposing the spherical constraint either sharply or smoothly.

The three-dimensional bimodal random-field Ising model is investigated using the N-fold version of the Wang-Landau algorithm. The essential energy subspaces are determined by the recently developed critical minimum energy subspace technique, and two implementations of this scheme are utilized. The random fields are obtained from a bimodal discrete $(pmDelta)$ distribution, and we study the model for various values of the disorder strength $Delta$, $Delta=0.5, 1, 1.5$ and 2, on cubic lattices with linear sizes $L=4-24$. We extract information for the probability distributions of the specific heat peaks over samples of random fields. This permits us to obtain the phase diagram and present the finite-size behavior of the specific heat. The question of saturation of the specific heat is re-examined and it is shown that the open problem of universality for the random-field Ising model is strongly influenced by the lack of self-averaging of the model. This property appears to be substantially depended on the disorder strength.
