We conduct a joint X-ray and weak-lensing study of four relaxed galaxy clusters (Hydra A, A478, A1689 and A1835) observed by both Suzaku and Subaru out to virial radii, with an aim to understand recently-discovered unexpected feature of the ICM in cluster outskirts. We show that the average hydrostatic-to-lensing total mass ratio for the four clusters decreases from sim 70% to sim 40% as the overdensity contrast decreases from 500 to the virial value. The average gas mass fraction from lensing total mass estimates increases with cluster radius and agrees with the cosmic mean baryon fraction within the virial radius, whereas the X-ray-based gas fraction considerably exceeds the cosmic values due to underestimation of the hydrostatic mass. We also develop a new advanced method for determining normalized cluster radial profiles for multiple X-ray observables by simultaneously taking into account both their radial dependence and multivariate scaling relations with weak-lensing masses. Although the four clusters span a range of halo mass, concentration, X-ray luminosity and redshift, we find that the gas entropy, pressure, temperature and density profiles are all remarkably self-similar when scaled with the lensing M_200 mass and r_200 radius. The entropy monotonically increases out to sim 0.5r_200 following the accretion shock heating model K(r)propto r^1.1, and flattens at simgt 0.5r_200.The universality of the scaled entropy profiles indicates that the thermalization mechanism over the entire cluster region (>0.1r_200) is controlled by gravitation in a common to all clusters, although the heating efficiency in the outskirts needs to be modified from the standard law.The bivariate scaling functions of the gas density and temperature reveal that the flattening of the outskirts entropy profile is caused by the steepening of the temperature, rather than the flattening of the gas density.

As the end products of the hierarchical process of cosmic structure formation, galaxy clusters present some predictable properties, like those mostly driven by gravity, and some others, more affected by astrophysical dissipative processes, that can b e recovered from observations and that show remarkable universal behaviour once rescaled by halo mass and redshift. However, a consistent picture that links these universal radial profiles and the integrated values of the thermodynamical quantities of the intracluster medium, also quantifying the deviations from the standard self-similar gravity-driven scenario, has to be demonstrated. In this work, we use a semi-analytic model based on a universal pressure profile in hydrostatic equilibrium within a cold dark matter halo with a defined relation between mass and concentration to reconstruct the scaling laws between the X-ray properties of galaxy clusters. We also quantify any deviation from the self-similar predictions in terms of temperature dependence of a few physical quantities such as the gas mass fraction, the relation between spectroscopic temperature and its global value, and, if present, the hydrostatic mass bias. This model allows to reconstruct both the observed profiles and the scaling laws between integrated quantities. We use the Planck-selected ESZ sample to calibrate the predicted scaling laws between gas mass, temperature, luminosity and total mass. Our universal model reproduces well the observed thermodynamic properties and provides a way to interpret the observed deviations from the standard self-similar behaviour. By combining these results with the constraints on the observed $Y_{SZ}-T$ relation, we show how we can quantify the level of gas clumping affecting the studied sample, estimate the clumping-free gas mass fraction, and suggest the average level of hydrostatic bias present.
We present a weak-lensing analysis of X-ray galaxy groups and clusters selected from the XMM-XXL survey using the first-year data from the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) Subaru Strategic Program. Our joint weak-lensing and X-ray analysis focuses on 136 spec troscopically confirmed X-ray-selected systems at 0.031 < z < 1.033 detected in the 25sqdeg XXL-N region. We characterize the mass distributions of individual clusters and establish the concentration-mass (c-M) relation for the XXL sample, by accounting for selection bias and statistical effects, and marginalizing over the remaining mass calibration uncertainty. We find the mass-trend parameter of the c-M relation to be beta = -0.07 pm 0.28 and the normalization to be c200 = 4.8 pm 1.0 (stat) pm 0.8 (syst) at M200=10^{14}Msun/h and z = 0.3. We find no statistical evidence for redshift evolution. Our weak-lensing results are in excellent agreement with dark-matter-only c-M relations calibrated for recent LCDM cosmologies. The level of intrinsic scatter in c200 is constrained as sigma(ln[c200]) < 24% (99.7% CL), which is smaller than predicted for the full population of LCDM halos. This is likely caused in part by the X-ray selection bias in terms of the relaxation state. We determine the temperature-mass (Tx-M500) relation for a subset of 105 XXL clusters that have both measured HSC lensing masses and X-ray temperatures. The resulting Tx-M500 relation is consistent with the self-similar prediction. Our Tx-M500 relation agrees with the XXL DR1 results at group scales, but has a slightly steeper mass trend, implying a smaller mass scale in the cluster regime. The overall offset in the Tx-M500 relation is at the $1.5sigma$ level, corresponding to a mean mass offset of (34pm 20)%. We also provide bias-corrected, weak-lensing-calibrated M200 and M500 mass estimates of individual XXL clusters based on their measured X-ray temperatures.
We studied the high temperature plasma in the direction of the Sculptor supercluster at z=0.108 with Suzaku. Suzaku carried out four observations in the supercluster: namely, A2811, A2811 offset, A2804, A2801 regions in 2005 Nov.--Dec., including the regions beyond the virial radii of these clusters. The study needed precise background estimation because the measured intensity of the redshifted lines, especially those from oxygen, were strongly affected by the the Galactic emission. The spectra taken in the regions outside of the virial radii of the member clusters were used as the background which included both the Galactic and Cosmic X-ray Background (CXB) components. We also used the background data which were taken near the Sculptor supercluster. Temperature and metal abundance profiles were determined to the virial radii of the member clusters, and then we searched for the oxygen line emission in the region outside of the virial radii of the clusters. As a result, the temperature of the clusters decreased toward the virial radii, and the spectral fits for the filament region did not require extra component other than the Galactic and CXB components. We constrained the intensities of O VII and O VIII lines to be less than 8.1 and 5.1 photons cm^-2 s^-1 arcmin^-2, respectively, as 2-sigma upper limits. The intensity of O VII indicates n_H < 1.6e-5 cm^-3 (Z/0.1 Z_solar)^-1/2 (L/25 Mpc)^-1/2, which corresponds to an over density, delta < 60 (Z/0.1 Z_solar)^-1/2 (L/25 Mpc)^-1/2.
We present the results of Suzaku X-ray follow-up observation of weak-lensing-detected halos in the field around galaxy cluster ZwCl0823.2+0425. We clearly detected X-ray emission associated with most of these halos and determined their detailed physi cal parameters such as X-ray luminosity, temperature, and metal abundance, for the first time. We find that the X-ray luminosity - temperature relation for these halos agrees with former typical results. With mass determined from the weak gravitational lensing data, the mass-temperature relation for them is also investigated and found to be consistent with the prediction from a simple self-similar model and results of the previous studies with both lensing and X-ray data. We would like to emphasize that the self-similar scaling relation of mass and temperature is shown here for the first time using a weak-lensing selected sample, whereas previous studies of the mass scaling relation used X-ray-selected samples of clusters. Therefore, our study demonstrates importance of X-ray follow-up observations of shear-selected clusters, and shows that a joint X-ray and lensing analysis will be crucial for clusters discovered by the forthcoming weak-lensing surveys, such as the one planned with Subaru/Hyper-Suprime-Cam.
The results from Suzaku observations of the central region of the Perseus cluster are presented. Deep exposures with the X-ray Imaging Spectrometer provide high quality X-ray spectra from the intracluster medium. X-ray lines from helium-like Cr and M n have been detected significantly for the first time in clusters. In addition, elemental abundances of Ne, Mg, Si, S, Ar, Ca, Fe, and Ni are accurately measured within 10 (or 220 kpc) from the cluster center. The relative abundance ratios are found to be within a range of 0.8-1.5 times the solar value. These abundance ratios are compared with previous measurements, those in extremely metal-poor stars in the Galaxy, and theoretical models.
