We discuss the predictions of the large scale calculations using the realistic realisation of the phenomenological nuclear mean-field theory. Calculations indicate that certain Zirconium nuclei are tetrahedral-symmetric in their ground-states. After a short overview of the research of the nuclear tetrahedral symmetry in the past we analyse the predictive capacities of the method and focus on the $^{96}$Zr nucleus expected to be tetrahedral in its ground-state.

In the hydrodynamic model description of heavy ion collisions, the elliptic flow $v_2$ and triangular flow $v_3$ are sensitive to the quadrupole deformation $beta_2$ and octupole deformation $beta_3$ of the colliding nuclei. The relations between $v_ n$ and $beta_n$ have recently been clarified and were found to follow a simple parametric form. The STAR Collaboration have just published precision $v_n$ data from isobaric $^{96}$Ru+$^{96}$Ru and $^{96}$Zr+$^{96}$Zr collisions, where they observe large differences in central collisions $v_{2,mathrm{Ru}}>v_{2,mathrm{Zr}}$ and $v_{3,mathrm{Ru}}<v_{3,mathrm{Zr}}$. Using a transport model simulation, we show that these orderings are a natural consequence of $beta_{2,mathrm{Ru}}ggbeta_{2,mathrm{Zr}}$ and $beta_{3,mathrm{Ru}}llbeta_{3,mathrm{Zr}}$. We are able to reproduce the centrality dependence of the $v_2$ ratio qualitatively and $v_3$ ratio quantitatively, and extract values of $beta_2$ and $beta_3$ that are consistent with those measured at low energy nuclear structure experiments. STAR data provide the first direct evidence of strong octupole correlations in the ground state of $^{96}$Zr in heavy ion collisions. Our analysis demonstrates that flow measurements in high-energy heavy ion collisions, especially using isobaric systems, are a new precision tool to study nuclear structure physics.
We report on the results of the calculations of the low energy excitation patterns for three Zirconium isotopes, viz. $^{80}$Zr$_{40}$, $^{96}$Zr$_{56}$ and $^{110}$Zr$_{70}$, reported by other authors to be doubly-magic tetrahedral nuclei (with tetr ahedral magic numbers $Z$=40 and $N$=40, 56 and 70). We employ the realistic Gogny effective interactions using three variants of their parametrisation and the particle-number, parity and the angular-momentum projection techniques. We confirm quantitatively that the resulting spectra directly follow the pattern expected from the group theory considerations for the tetrahedral symmetric quantum objects. We also find out that, for all the nuclei studied, the correlation energy obtained after the angular momentum projection is very large for the tetrahedral deformation as well as other octupole deformations. The lowering of the energies of the resulting configurations is considerable, i.e. by about 10 MeV or even more, once again confirming the significance of the angular-momentum projections techniques in the mean-field nuclear structure calculations.
Three well known photonuclear sum rules (SR), i.e. the Thomas-Reiche-Kuhn, the bremsstrahlungs and the polarizability SR are calculated for 4He with the realistic nucleon-nucleon potential Argonne V18 and the three-nucleon force Urbana IX. The relati on between these sum rules and the corresponding energy weighted integrals of the cross section is discussed. Two additional equivalences for the bremsstrahlungs SR are given, which connect it to the proton-neutron and neutron-neutron distances. Using them, together with our result for the bremsstrahlungs SR, we find a deviation from the tetrahedral symmetry of the spatial configuration of 4He. The possibility to access this deviation experimentally is discussed.
We find the threshold structure of the two- and three-nucleon systems, with the deuteron and 3H/3He as the only bound nuclei, sufficient to predict a pair of four-nucleon states: a deeply bound state which is identified with the helium-4 ground state , and a shallow, unstable state at an energy 0.38(25) MeV above the triton-proton threshold which is consistent with data on the first excited state of helium-4. The analysis employs the framework of Pionless EFT at leading order with a generalized regulator prescription which probes renormalization-group invariance of the two states with respect to higher-order perturbations including asymmetrical disturbances of the short-distance structure of the interaction. In addition to this invariance of the bound-state spectrum and the diagonal triton-proton 1S0 phase shifts in the helium-4 channel with respect to the short-distance structure of the nuclear interaction, our multi-channel calculations with a resonating-group method demonstrate the increasing sensitivity of nuclei to the neutron-proton P-wave interaction. We show that two-nucleon phase shifts, the triton channel, and three-nucleon negative-parity channels are less sensitive with respect to enhanced two-nucleon P-wave attraction than the four-nucleon triton-proton 1S0 phase shifts.
The nature of $J^{pi}=1^-$ levels of $^{96}$Zr below the $beta$-decay $Q_{beta}$ value of $^{96}$Y has been investigated in high-resolution $gamma$-ray spectroscopy following the $beta$ decay as well as in a campaign of inelastic photon scattering ex periments. Branching ratios extracted from $beta$ decay allow the absolute $E1$ excitation strength to be determined for levels populated in both reactions. The combined data represents a comprehensive approach to the wavefunction of $1^-$ levels below the $Q_{beta}$ value, which are investigated in the theoretical approach of the Quasiparticle Phonon Model. This study clarifies the nuclear structure properties associated with the enhanced population of high-lying levels in the $^{96}$Y$_{gs}$ $beta$ decay, one of the three most important contributors to the high-energy reactor antineutrino spectrum.
