We investigate the effects of Coulomb interaction on charge transfer through a quantum dot attached to a normal and a superconducting lead. While for voltages much larger than the gap we recover the usual result for normal conductors, for voltages much smaller than the gap superconducting correlations lead to a drastically different behavior. Especially, the usual charge doubling in the normal case is reflected in the occurence of quartets due to the onsite interaction.

We examine the full counting statistics of electron transport through double quantum dots coupled in series, with particular attention being paid to the unique features originating from level renormalization. It is clearly illustrated that the energy renormalization gives rise to a dynamic charge blockade mechanism, which eventually results in super-Poissonian noise. Coupling of the double dots to an external heat bath leads to dephasing and relaxation mechanisms, which are demonstrated to suppress the noise in a unique way.
The electronic energy levels and optical transitions of a semiconductor quantum dot are subject to dynamics within the solid-state environment. In particular, fluctuating electric fields due to nearby charge traps or other quantum dots shift the tran sition frequencies via the Stark effect. The environment dynamics are mapped directly onto the fluorescence under resonant excitation and diminish the prospects of quantum dots as sources of indistinguishable photons in optical quantum computing. Here, we present an analysis of resonance fluorescence fluctuations based on photon counting statistics which captures the underlying time-averaged electric field fluctuations of the local environment. The measurement protocol avoids dynamic feedback on the electric environment and the dynamics of the quantum dots nuclear spin bath by virtue of its resonant nature and by keeping experimental control parameters such as excitation frequency and external fields constant throughout. The method introduced here is experimentally undemanding.

The complete characterisation of the charge transport in a mesoscopic device is provided by the Full Counting Statistics (FCS) $P_t(m)$, describing the amount of charge $Q = me$ transmitted during the time $t$. Although numerous systems have been the oretically characterized by their FCS, the experimental measurement of the distribution function $P_t(m)$ or its moments $langle Q^n rangle$ are rare and often plagued by strong back-action. Here, we present a strategy for the measurement of the FCS, more specifically its characteristic function $chi(lambda)$ and moments $langle Q^n rangle$, by a qubit with a set of different couplings $lambda_j$, $j = 1,dots,k,dots k+p$, $k = lceil n/2 rceil$, $p geq 0$, to the mesoscopic conductor. The scheme involves multiple readings of Ramsey sequences at the different coupling strengths $lambda_j$ and we find the optimal distribution for these couplings $lambda_j$ as well as the optimal distribution $N_j$ of $N = sum N_j$ measurements among the different couplings $lambda_j$. We determine the precision scaling for the moments $langle Q^n rangle$ with the number $N$ of invested resources and show that the standard quantum limit can be approached when many additional couplings $pgg 1$ are included in the measurement scheme.
We investigate theoretically the noise and the full counting statistics of electrons that are emitted from a superconductor into two spatially separated quantum dots by the splitting of Cooper pairs and further on collected in two normal-state electr odes. With negatively-biased drain electrodes and a large superconducting gap, the dynamics of the Cooper pair splitter can be described by a Markovian quantum master equation. Using techniques from full counting statistics, we evaluate the electrical currents, their noise power spectra, and the power-power correlations in the output leads. The current fluctuations can be attributed to the competition between Cooper pair splitting and elastic cotunneling between the quantum dots via the superconductor. In one regime, these processes can be clearly distinguished in the cross-correlation spectrum with peaks and dips appearing at characteristic frequencies associated with elastic cotunneling and Cooper pair splitting, respectively. We corroborate this interpretation by analyzing the charge transport fluctuations in the time domain, specifically by investigating the $g^{(2)}$-function of the output currents. Our work identifies several experimental signatures of the fundamental transport processes involved in Cooper pair splitting and provides specific means to quantify their relative strengths. As such, our results may help guide and interpret future experiments on current fluctuations in Cooper pair splitters.

Destructive interference of single-electron tunneling between three quantum dots can trap an electron in a coherent superposition of charge on two of the dots. Coupling to external charges causes decoherence of this superposition, and in the presence of a large bias voltage each decoherence event transfers a certain number of electrons through the device. We calculate the counting statistics of the transferred charges, finding a crossover from sub-Poissonian to super-Poissonian statistics with increasing ratio of tunnel and decoherence rates.
