We consider brane world models with one extra dimension. In the bulk there is in addition to gravity a three form gauge potential or equivalently a scalar (by generalisation of electric magnetic duality). We find classical solutions for which the 4d effective cosmological constant is adjusted by choice of integration constants. No go theorems for such self-tuning mechanism are circumvented by unorthodox Lagrangians for the three form respectively the scalar. It is argued that the corresponding effective 4d theory always includes tachyonic Kaluza-Klein excitations or ghosts. Known no go theorems are extended to a general class of models with unorthodox Lagrangians.
A general framework for studying compactifications in supergravity and string theories was introduced by Candelas, Horowitz, Strominger and Witten. This was further generalised to take into account the warp factor by de Wit, Smit and Hari Dass. Thoug
After working out the so called braneworld sum rules formalism in order to encompass Gauss-Bonnet terms, the generation of thick branes is proposed, even with a periodic extra dimension, what circumvents the Gibbons-Kallosh-Linde no-go theorem in this context.
Stringent restrictions for model building are imposed by a no-go theorem in noncommutative gauge field theory. Circumventing this theorem is crucial for the construction of realistic models of particle interactions. To this end, the noncommutative co
We review model independent arguments showing that massless particles interacting with gravity in a Minkowski background space can have at most spin two. These arguments include a classic theorem due to Weinberg, as well as a more recent extension of
We prove that a very large class of $15502$ general Argyres-Douglas theories cannot admit a UV lagrangian which flows to them via the Maruyoshi-Song supersymmetry enhancement mechanism. We do so by developing a computer program which brute-force list
