We investigate the field tuned quantum phase transition in a 2D low-disorder amorphous InO$_x$ film in the frequency range of 0.05 to 16 GHz employing microwave spectroscopy. In the zero temperature limit, the AC data are consistent with a scenario where this transition is from a superconductor to a metal instead of a direct transition to an insulator. The intervening metallic phase is unusual with a small but finite resistance that is much smaller than the normal state sheet resistance at the lowest measured temperatures. Moreover, it exhibits a superconducting response on short length and time scales while global superconductivity is destroyed. We present evidence that the true quantum critical point of this 2D superconductor metal transition is located at a field $B_{sm}$ far below the conventionally defined critical field $B_{cross}$ where different isotherms of magnetoresistance cross each other. The superfluid stiffness in the low frequency limit and the superconducting fluctuation frequency from opposite sides of the transition both vanish at B $approx B_{sm}$. The lack of evidence for finite-frequency superfluid stiffness surviving $B_{cross}$ signifies that $B_{cross}$ is a crossover above which superconducting fluctuations make a vanishing contribution to DC and AC measurements.

We present low temperature measurements of the resistance in magnetic field of superconducting ultrathin amorphous Bi films with normal state sheet resistances, $R_N$, near the resistance quantum, $R_Q={hbarover {e^2}}$. For $R_N<R_Q$, the tails of t he resistive transitions show the thermally activated flux flow signature characteristic of defect motion in a vortex solid with a finite correlation length. When $R_N$ exceeds $R_Q$, the tails become non-activated. We conclude that in films where $R_N>R_Q$ there is no vortex solid and, hence, no zero resistance state in magnetic field. We describe how disorder induced quantum and/or mesoscopic fluctuations can eliminate the vortex solid and also discuss implications for the magnetic-field-tuned superconductor-insulator transition.
Low-temperature (T) heat-capacity measurements under hydrostatic pressure of up to p=2.1 GPa have been performed on single-crystalline CeCu2Si2. A broad superconducting (SC) region exists in the T-p phase diagram. In the low-pressure region antiferro magnetic spin fluctuations and in the high-pressure region valence fluctuations had previously been proposed to mediate Cooper pairing. We could identify these two distinct SC regions. We found different thermodynamic properties of the SC phase in both regions, supporting the proposal that different mechanisms might be implied in the formation of superconductivity.

We report neutron scattering experiment results revealing the nature of the magnetic order occurring in the heavy fermion superconductor Ce0.95Nd0.05CoIn5, a case for which an antiferromagnetic state is stabilized at a temperature below the supercond ucting transition one. We evidence an incommensurate order and its propagation vector is found to be identical to that of the magnetic field induced antiferromagnetic order occurring in the stoichiometric superconductor CeCoIn5, the so-called Q-phase. The commonality between these two cases suggests that superconductivity is a requirement for the formation of this kind of magnetic order and the proposed mechanism is the enhancement of nesting condition by d-wave order parameter with nodes in the nesting area.

We report on first investigation of the lattice dynamics in the novel superconducting material Na$_{0.35}$CoO$_2$$cdot$1.3H$_2$O and the non-hydrated parent compound Na$_{0.7}$CoO$_2$ by inelastic x-ray scattering. The measured phonon dispersion alon g the $Gamma-M$ direction show a marked softening with hole doping of two optical phonon branches close to the Brillouin zone boundary. The phonon spectra, dispersion, and softening are well reproduced by first-principle calculations. The calculations indicates that the soft branches are mainly composed of Co-vibration modes. The estimation of the critical temperature based on electron-phonon coupling mechanism undisputedly points to a non-conventional superconducting state in this material.
We study conductance spectroscopy of a two-dimensional junction between a normal metal and a strongly-correlated superconductor in an applied magnetic field in the Pauli limit. Depending on the field strength the superconductor is either in the Barde en-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS), or in the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state of the Fulde-Ferrell (FF) type. The strong correlations are accounted for by means of the Gutzwiller method what leads naturally to the emergence of the spin-dependent masses (SDM) of quasiparticles when the system is spin-polarized. The case without strong correlations (with the spin-independent masses, SIM) is analyzed for comparison. We consider both the s-wave and the d-wave symmetries of the superconducting gap and concentrate on the parallel orientation of the Cooper pair momentum Q with respect to the junction interface. The junction conductance is presented for selected barrier strengths (i.e., in the contact, intermediate, and tunneling limits). The conductance spectra in the cases with and without strong correlations differ essentially. Our analysis provides thus an experimentally accessible test for the presence of strong-correlations in the superconducting state. Namely, correlations alter the distance between the conductance peaks (or related conductance features) for carriers with spin-up and spin-down. In the uncorrelated case, this distance is twice the Zeeman energy. In the correlated case, the corresponding distance is about 30-50% smaller, but other models may provide even stronger difference, depending on details of the system electronic structure. It turns out that the strong correlations manifest themselves most clearly in the case of the junction with the BCS, rather than the FFLO superconductor, what should make the experimental verification of the present results simpler.
