We present a magnetoresistive-photoresistive device based on the interaction of a piezomagnetic CoFe thin film with a photostrictive BiFeO3 substrate that undergoes light-induced strain. The magnitude of the resistance and magnetoresistance in the CoFe film can be controlled by the wavelength of the incident light on the BiFeO3. Moreover, a light-induced decrease in anisotropic magnetoresistance is detected due to an additional magnetoelastic contribution to magnetic anisotropy of the CoFe film. This effect may find applications in photo-sensing systems, wavelength detectors and can possibly open a research development in light-controlled magnetic switching properties for next generation magnetoresistive memory devices.

Multiferroic BiFeO3 (BFO) thin film exhibiting desired ferroelectric and enhanced magnetic properties was grown on La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 (LSMO) buffered Pt/TiO2/SiO2/Si substrates by off-axis RF magnetic sputtering, where a highly (111)-oriented texture w as obtained. The BFO/LSMO thin film exhibits excellent ferroelectric and dielectric behaviors (2Pr ~210.7 {mu}C/cm2, 2Ec~435 kV/cm, {epsilon}r ~116.8, and tan{delta} ~ 2.7% at 1 kHz), together with a long fatigue endurance up to 1010 switching cycles at amplitude of 300 kV/cm. An enhancement in magnetic behavior was also observed with Ms=89.5 emu/cm3, which is largely contributed from the magnetic layer of LSMO. The coexistence of ferroelectric and ferromagnetic properties in the double layered BFO/LSMO thin film makes it a promising candidate system for applications where the magnetoelectric behavior is required.

First-principles density-functional theory calculations show switching magnetization by 90 degree can be achieved in ultrathin BFO film by applying external electric-field. Up-spin carriers appear to the surface with positive field while down-spin on es to the negative field surface, arising from the redistribution of Fe-t2g orbital. The half-metallic behavior of Fe-3d states in the surface of R phase film makes it a promising candidate for AFM/FM bilayer heterostructure possessing electric-field tunable FM magnetization reversal and opens a new way towards designing spintronic multiferroics. The interface exchange-bias effect in this BFO/FM bilayer is mainly driven by the Fe-t2g orbital reconstruction, as well as spin transferring and rearrangement.
Perovskite oxides exhibit a rich variety of structural phases hosting different physical phenomena that generate multiple technological applications. We find that topological phonons, i.e., nodal rings, nodal lines, and Weyl points, are ubiquitous in oxide perovskites in terms of structures (tetragonal, orthorhombic, and rhombohedral), compounds (BaTiO3, PbTiO3, and SrTiO3), and external conditions (photoexcitation, strain, and temperature). In particular, in the tetragonal phase of these compounds, all types of topological phonons can simultaneously emerge when stabilized by photoexcitation, whereas the tetragonal phase stabilized by thermal fluctuations only hosts a more limited set of topological phonon states. Additionally, we find that the photoexcited carrier concentration can be used to tune the topological phonon states and induce topological transitions even without associated structural phase changes. Overall, we propose oxide perovskites as a versatile platform in which to study topological phonons and their manipulation with light.

We report the experimental observation of the spin Seebeck effect (SSE) in Ag/CoFe noble metal/magnetic metal bilayers with a longitudinal structure. Thermal voltages jointly generated by the anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) and the SSE were detected ac ross the Ag/CoFe/Cu strip with a perpendicular thermal gradient. To effectively separate the SSE and the ANE part of the thermal voltages, we compared the experimental results between the Ag/CoFe/Cu strip and Cu/CoFe/Cu strip, where two samples processed with the heating power instead of the temperature difference through the thin CoFe film. The respective contributions of the ANE and SSE to thermal voltage were determined, and they have the ratio of 4:1. The spin current injected through CoFe/Ag interface is calculated to be 1.76 mA/W.
We have studied the magnetic-field and concentration dependences of the magnetizations of the hole and Mn subsystems in diluted ferromagnetic semiconductor Ga_{1-x}Mn_xAs. A mean-field approximation to the hole-mediated interaction is used, in which the hole concentration p(x) is parametrized in terms of a fitting (of the hole effective mass and hole/local moment coupling) to experimental data on the Tc critical temperature. The dependence of the magnetizations with x, for a given temperature, presents a sharply peaked structure, with maxima increasing with applied magnetic field, which indicates that application to diluted-magnetic-semiconductor devices would require quality-control of the Mn-doping composition. We also compare various experimental data for Tc(x) and p(x) on different Ga_{1-x}Mn_xAs samples and stress the need of further detailed experimental work to assure that the experimental measurements are reproducible.
