For holographic gratings recorded in superparamagnetic nanoparticle-polymer composites the diffraction efficiency should -- next to grating spacing, nanoparticle concentration and grating thickness -- depend on the strength of an external magnetic field and the incident neutron spin state. As a consequence, diffraction gratings should be tunable to act as mirrors for one spin state, while being essentially transparent for the other. Thus, polarizing beam splitters for cold neutrons become feasible.
We have experimentally demonstrated polarizers and polarizing beam splitters based on microwave-scale two-dimensional photonic crystals. Using polarized microwaves within certain frequency bands, we have observed a squared-sinusoid (Malus) transmissi
Diffraction of slow neutrons by nanoparticle-polymer composite gratings has been observed. By carefully choosing grating parameters such as grating thickness and spacing, a three-port beam splitter operation for cold neutrons - splitting the incident
We present designs for variably polarizing beam splitters. These are beam splitters allowing the complete and independent control of the horizontal and vertical polarization splitting ratios. They have quantum optics and quantum information applicati
The recent development of phase-grating moire neutron interferometry promises a wide range of impactful experiments from dark-field imaging of material microstructure to precise measurements of fundamental constants. However, the contrast of 3 % obta
