We report the use of Lorentz microscopy to observe the domain wall structure during the magnetization process in FePd thin foils. We have focused on the magnetic structure of domain walls of bubble-shaped magnetic domains near saturation. Regions are found along the domain walls where the magnetization abruptly reverses. Multiscale magnetic simulations shown that these regions are vertical Bloch lines (VBL) and the different bubble shapes observed are then related to the inner structure of the VBLs. We were thus able to probe the presence of magnetic singularities as small as Bloch points in the inner magnetization of the domain walls.

The structure of domain walls delimiting magnetic bubbles in L10 FePd thin layers is described on the basis of Lorentz transmission electron microscopy (LTEM) and multiscale magnetic simulations. Images obtained by high resolution LTEM show the exist ence of magnetization reversal areas inside domain walls, called vertical Bloch lines (VBLs). Combining these observations and multiscale simulations on various geometries, we can identify the structure of these VBLs, notably the presence or not of magnetic singularities.

We have shown that polarized neutron reflectometry can determine in a model-free way not only the mean magnetization of a ferromagnetic thin film at any point of a hysteresis cycle, but also the mean square dispersion of the magnetization vectors of its lateral domains. This technique is applied to elucidate the mechanism of the magnetization reversal of an exchange-biased Co/CoO bilayer. The reversal process above the blocking temperature is governed by uniaxial domain switching, while below the blocking temperature the reversal of magnetization for the trained sample takes place with substantial domain rotation.
In this paper we provide a new method to certify that a nearby polynomial system has a singular isolated root with a prescribed multiplicity structure. More precisely, given a polynomial system f $=(f_1, ldots, f_N)in C[x_1, ldots, x_n]^N$, we presen t a Newton iteration on an extended deflated system that locally converges, under regularity conditions, to a small deformation of $f$ such that this deformed system has an exact singular root. The iteration simultaneously converges to the coordinates of the singular root and the coefficients of the so called inverse system that describes the multiplicity structure at the root. We use $$alpha$$-theory test to certify the quadratic convergence, and togive bounds on the size of the deformation and on the approximation error. The approach relies on an analysis of the punctual Hilbert scheme, for which we provide a new description. We show in particular that some of its strata can be rationally parametrized and exploit these parametrizations in the certification. We show in numerical experimentation how the approximate inverse system can be computed as a starting point of the Newton iterations and the fast numerical convergence to the singular root with its multiplicity structure, certified by our criteria.
The rate and pathways of relaxation of a magnetic medium to its equilibrium following excitation with intense and short laser pulses are the key ingredients of ultrafast optical control of spins. Here we study experimentally the evolution of the magn etization and magnetic anisotropy of thin films of a ferromagnetic metal galfenol (Fe$_{0.81}$Ga$_{0.19}$) resulting from excitation with a femtosecond laser pulse. From the temporal evolution of the hysteresis loops we deduce that the magnetization $M_S$ and magnetic anisotropy parameters $K$ recover within a nanosecond, and the ratio between $K$ and $M_S$ satisfies the thermal equilibriums power law in the whole time range spanning from a few picoseconds to 3 nanoseconds. We further use the experimentally obtained relaxation times of $M_S$ and $K$ to analyze the laser-induced precession and demonstrate how they contribute to its frequency evolution at the nanosecond timescale.
We report on the magnetization dynamics of a square array of mesoscopic discs, fabricated from an iron palladium alloy film. The dynamics properties were explored using ferromagnetic resonance measurements and micromagnetic simulations. The obtained spectra exhibit features resulting from the interactions between the discs, with a clear dependence on both temperature and the direction of the externally applied field. We demonstrate a qualitative agreement between the measured and calculated spectra. Furthermore, we calculated the mode profiles of the standing spin waves excited during a time-dependent magnetic field excitations. The resulting maps confirm that the features appearing in the ferromagnetic resonance absorption spectra originate from the temperature and directional dependent inter-disc interactions.
