We study methods of extracting new physics signals in final states with a top-quark pair plus large missing energy at the LHC. We consider two typical examples of such new physics: pair production of a fermionic top partner (a $T$ in Little Higgs models for example) and of a scalar top partner (a $tilde{t}$ in SUSY). With a commonly-adopted discrete symmetry under which non Standard Model particles are odd, the top partner is assumed to decay predominantly to a top quark plus a massive neutral stable particle $A^0$. We focus on the case in which one of the top quarks decays leptonically and the other decays hadronically, $pp to {tt} A^0A^0 X to bj_1j_2 bar bell^- bar u A^0A^0 X + c.c.$, where the $A^0$s escape detection. We identify a key parameter for the signal observation: the mass splitting between the top partner and the missing particle. We reconstruct a transverse mass for the lepton-missing transverse energy system to separate the real $W$ background from the signal and propose a definition for the reconstructed top quark mass that allows it to take unphysical values as an indication of new physics. We perform a scan over the two masses to map out the discovery reach at the LHC in this channel. We also comment on the possibility of distinguishing between scalar and fermionic top partners using collider signatures.

In SUSY models with heavy squarks and gaugino mass unification, the gaugino pair production reaction pp-> tw_1^pmtz_2 dominates gluino pair production for m_{tg}agt 1 TeV at LHC with sqrt{s}=14 TeV (LHC14). For this mass range, the two-body decays tw _1to Wtz_1 and tz_2to htz_1 are expected to dominate the chargino and neutralino branching fractions. By searching for ell bbar{b}+MET events from tw_1^pmtz_2 production, we show that LHC14 with 100 fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity becomes sensitive to chargino masses in the range m_{tw_1}sim 450-550 GeV corresponding to m_{tg}sim 1.5-2 TeV in models with gaugino mass unification. For 10^3 fb^{-1}, LHC14 is sensitive to the Wh channel for m_{tw_1}sim 300-800 GeV, corresponding to m_{tg}sim 1-2.8 TeV, which is comparable to the reach for gluino pair production followed by cascade decays. The Wh+MET search channel opens up a new complementary avenue for SUSY searches at LHC, and serves to point to SUSY as the origin of any new physics discovered via multijet and multilepton + MET channels.
We analyze the LHC prospects for measurements of the $tbar{t}$ pair produced exclusively in photon-photon or semi-exclusively in photon-Pomeron and Pomeron-Pomeron processes using protons tagged in forward proton detectors on both sides of the intera ction point. These processes are interesting from the point of view of a possible measurement of the top quark mass and constraining models used in Beyond Standard Model physics. Focusing on the semi-leptonic channel, $tbar{t}rightarrow jjbl u_lbar{b}$, making use of the exclusive nature of the final state, together with the use of timing information provided by forward proton detectors, relevant exclusive and inclusive backgrounds are studied in detail for different luminosity (or pile-up) scenarios and found to be important for further considerations. While good prospects are found for observing the signal, the top quark mass measurement turns out not to be competitive with measurements in inclusive channels.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is expected to provide proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 14 TeV, yielding millions of of top quark events. The top-physics potential of the two general purpose experiments, ATLAS and CMS, is discus sed according to state-of-the-art simulation of both physics and detectors. An overview is given of the most important results with emphasis on the expected improvements in our understanding of physics connected to the top quark.
We obtain a soft plus virtual approximation to the NNLO QCD contributions to the top-pair invariant mass distribution at hadron colliders. It is valid up to corrections of order m_t^2/M^2, with M the pair invariant mass. This is currently the most co mplete QCD calculation for a differential cross section in top-quark pair production, and is useful for describing the high invariant mass region characteristic of boosted top quarks. We use our results to construct an improved NNLO approximation for the pair invariant mass distribution and compare it with previous, less complete approximations based on logarithmic terms from NNLL soft-gluon resummation alone. We find that the new NNLO approximation produces moderate enhancements of the differential cross section compared to previous ones, the effect being slightly more important at low values of invariant mass than at high ones. On the other hand, at high values of invariant mass the new NNLO corrections are dominated by even higher-order effects included in NNLL soft-gluon resummation, reaffirming the need for resummation in describing the highly boosted regime.

In this work, we investigate the prompt $J/psi$ production in associated with top quark pair to leading order in the nonrelativistic QCD factorization formalism at the LHC with $sqrt{s} =13$ TeV. In addition to the contribution from direct $J/psi$ pr oduction, we also include the indirect contribution from the directly produced heavier charmmonia $chi_{cJ}$ and $psi^prime$. We present the numerical results for the total and differential cross sections and find that the $sideset{^3}{^{(8)}_1}{mathop{{S}}}$ states give the dominant contributions. The prompt $tbar t J/psi$ signatures at the LHC are analyzed in the tetralepton channel $ppto (tto W^+(ell^+ u)b) (bar t to W^-(ell^- bar u)bar b) (J/psitomu^+mu^-)$ and trilepton channel $ppto (tto W(q q^prime)b) ( t to W(ell u) b) (J/psitomu^+mu^-)$, with the $J/psi$ mesons decaying into muon pair, and the top quarks decaying leptonically or hadronically. We find that $tbar t J/psi$ proudction can be potentially detected at the LHC, whose measurement is useful to test the heavy quarkonium production mechanism.
