Classical target space duality transformations are studied for the non-linear sigma model with a dilaton field. Working within the framework of the Hamiltonian formalism we require the duality transformation to be a property only of the target spaces. We obtain a set of restrictions on the geometrical data.

We generalize previous results on target space duality to the case where there are background fields and the sigma model lagrangian has a potential function.
In this work, kinks with non-canonical kinetic energy terms are studied in a type of two-dimensional dilaton gravity model. The linear stability issue is generally discussed for arbitrary static solutions with the aid of supersymmetric quantum mechan ics theory, and the stability criteria are obtained. As an explicit example, a model with cuscuton term is studied. After rewriting the equations of motion into simpler first-order formalism and choosing a polynomial superpotential, an exact self-gravitating kink solution is obtained. The impacts of the cuscuton term are discussed.
We briefly review the concepts of generalized zero curvature conditions and integrability in higher dimensions, where integrability in this context is related to the existence of infinitely many conservation laws. Under certain assumptions, it turns out that these conservation laws are, in fact, generated by a class of geometric target space transformations, namely the volume-preserving diffeomorphisms. We classify the possible conservation laws of field theories for the case of a three-dimensional target space. Further, we discuss some explicit examples.
In theories of Einstein gravity coupled with a dilaton and a two-form, a soft theorem for the two-form, known as the Kalb-Ramond B-field, has so far been missing. In this work we fill the gap, and in turn formulate a unified soft theorem valid for gr avitons, dilatons and B-fields in any tree-level scattering amplitude involving the three massless states. The new soft theorem is fixed by means of on-shell gauge invariance and enters at the subleading order of the gravitons soft theorem. In contrast to the subsubleading soft behavior of gravitons and dilatons, we show that the soft behavior of B-fields at this order cannot be fully fixed by gauge invariance. Nevertheless, we show that it is possible to establish a gauge invariant decomposition of the amplitudes to any order in the soft expansion. We check explicitly the new soft theorem in the bosonic string and in Type II superstring theories, and furthermore demonstrate that, at the next order in the soft expansion, totally gauge invariant terms appear in both string theories which cannot be factorized into a soft theorem.
We study particle production and unitarity violation caused by a curved target space right after inflation. We use the inflaton field value instead of cosmic time as the time variable, and derive a semiclassical formula for the spectrum of produced p articles. We then derive a simple condition for unitarity violation during preheating, which we confirm by our semiclassical method and numerical solution. This condition depends not only on the target space curvature but also on the height of the inflaton potential at the end of inflation. This condition tells us, for instance, that unitarity is violated in running kinetic inflation and Higgs inflation, while unitarity is conserved in $alpha$-attractor inflation and Higgs-Palatini inflation.
