The purpose of BRAHMS is to survey the dynamics of relativistic heavy ion (as well as pp and d-A) collisions over a very wide range of rapidity and transverse momentum. The sum of these data may give us a glimpse of the initial state of the system, its transverse and longitudinal evolution and how the nature of the system changes with time. Here I will concentrate on the origin and dynamics of the light flavors, i.e. the creation and transport of the up, down and strange quarks. The results presented here are certainly not the end of the story. It is my hope that in a few years new detectors will reveal the rapidity dependence of the charm and bottom quarks.

Flow measurements of multi-strange baryons from Au + Au collisions at RHIC energies demonstrate that collectivity develops before hadronization, among partons. To pin down the partonic EOS of matter produced at RHIC, the status of thermalization in s uch collisions has to be addressed. We propose to measure collective flow of heavy-flavor quarks, e.g. charm quarks, as an indicator of thermalization of light flavors ($u,d,s$). The completion of the time of flight barrel and the proposed upgrade with a $mu$Vertex detector for heavy-flavor identification in STAR are well suited for achieving these goals.

We present the recent results on non-photonic electron (NPE) yields from RHIC run8 p+p collisions. The $e/pi$ ratio as a function of $p_T$ in run8 with a factor of 10 reduction of the inner detector material at STAR is found to be consistent with tho se results from run3 taking into account the NPE from charm leptonic decay and the difference of photonic electron yield from photon conversion in detector material. Jpsi spectra in pp and cucu collisions at sNN = 200 GeV with high sampled luminosity Jpsi spectrum at high-pT follows $x_T$ scaling, but the scaling is violated at low pT. $J/psi$-hadron correlations in pp collisions are studied to understand the Jpsi production mechanism at high $p_T$. We observed an absence of charged hadrons accompanying Jpsi on the near-side, in contrast to the strong correlation peak in the di-hadron correlations. This constrains the $B$-meson contribution and jet fragmentation to inclusive Jpsi to be ${}^{<}_{sim}17%$. Yields in minimum-bias cucu collisions are consistent with those in pp collisions scaled by the underlying binary nucleon-nucleon collisions in the measured pT range. Other measurements and future projects related to heavy-flavors are discussed.

In these proceedings, we report on the production of various open heavy-flavor hadrons and quarkonia in Au+Au collisions at sNN = 200GeV from the STAR experiment.

The ultra-relativistic heavy-ion programs at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and the Large Hadron Collider have evolved into a phase of quantitative studies of Quantum Chromodynamics at very high temperatures. The charm and bottom hadron producti on offer unique insights into the remarkable transport properties and the microscopic structure of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) created in these collisions. Heavy quarks, due to their large masses, undergo Brownian motion at low momentum, provide a window on hadronization mechanisms at intermediate momenta, and are expected to merge into a radiative-energy loss regime at high momentum. We review recent experimental and theoretical achievements on measuring a variety of heavy-flavor observables, characterizing the different regimes in momentum, extracting pertinent transport coefficients and deducing implications for the inner workings of the QGP medium.
The u- and d-quark contributions to the elastic nucleon electromagnetic form factors have been determined using experimental data on GEn, GMn, GpE, and GpM. Such a flavor separation of the form factors became possible up to 3.4 GeV2 with recent data on GEn from Hall A at JLab. At a negative four-momentum transfer squared Q2 above 1 GeV2, for both the u- and d-quark components, the ratio of the Pauli form factor to the Dirac form factor, F2/F1, was found to be almost constant, and for each of F2 and F1 individually, the d-quark portions of both form factors drop continuously with increasing Q2.
