We show that the magnetization in color-flavor locked superconductors can be so strong that homogeneous quark matter becomes metastable for a wide range of magnetic field values. This indicates that magnetic domains or other type of magnetic inhomogeneities can be present in the quark cores of magnetars.

We study the low energy effective action for the collective modes of the color flavor locked phase of QCD. This phase of matter has long been known to be a superfluid because by picking a phase its order parameter breaks the quark-number $U(1)_B$ sym metry spontaneously. We consider the modes describing fluctuations in the magnitude of the condensate, namely the Higgs mode, and in the phase of the condensate, namely the Nambu-Goldstone (or Anderson-Bogoliubov) mode associated with the breaking of $U(1)_B$. By employing as microscopic theory the Nambu-Jona Lasinio model, we reproduce known results for the Lagrangian of the Nambu-Goldstone field to the leading order in the chemical potential and extend such results evaluating corrections due to the gap parameter. Moreover, we determine the interaction terms between the Higgs and the Nambu-Goldstone field. This study paves the way for a more reliable study of various dissipative processes in rotating compact stars with a quark matter core in the color flavor locked phase.

In this paper, we suggest that the process in quark nova explosion may exist widely in various kinds of supernova, although it only happens in a small part in the core in most cases. And the contribution to the energy releasing of whole supernova exp losion can also be provided by QCD interacting term. In this way we derive a general equation of energy quantity to be released in quark nova process related to several parameters. After quark nova explosion process, the remnant can be a quark star, or a neutron star with quark matter core if this process only happens in a small part inside the compact star instead of a full quark nova. We will also use a more generalized approach to analyse the strangelets released from quark nova and will draw a possible interpretation of why effects caused by strangelets have not been observed yet. Our result suggests that the ordinary matter can only spontaneously transform into strange quark matter by crushing them into high pressure under the extreme condition in compact star, although generally the reaction would really be exergonic.
Several attempts have been made in the past decades to search for the true ground state of the dense matter at sufficiently large densities and low temperatures via compact astrophysical objects. Focusing on strange stars, we derive the hydrostatic e quilibrium assuming a maximally symmetric phase of homogeneous superconducting quark matter called the textit{color-flavor-locked} (CFL) phase in the background of energy-momentum squared gravity (EMSG). Theoretical and experimental investigations show that strange quark matter (SQM) in a CFL state can be the true ground state of hadronic matter at least for asymptotic densities, and even if the unequal quark masses. Motivated by these theoretical models, we explore the structure of stellar objects in recently proposed EMSG, which allows a correction term $T_{mu u}T^{mu u}$ in the action functional of the theory. Interestingly, EMSG may be effective to resolve the problems at high energy densities, e.g., relevant to the early universe and dense compact astrophysical objects without invoking some new forms of fluid stress, such as bulk viscosity or scalar fields. Finally, we solve the complicated field equations numerically to obtain the mass-radius relations for strange stars in CFL equation of state.
It is shown that spin polarization with respect to each flavor in three-flavor quark matter occurs instead of the color-flavor locking at high baryon density by using the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with four-point tensor-type interaction. Also, it is i ndicated that the order of phase transition between the color-flavor locked phase and the spin polarized phase is the first order by means of the second order perturbation theory.
We propose a new framework to generate the Standard Model (SM) quark flavor hierarchies in the context of two Higgs doublet models (2HDM). The `flavorful 2HDM couples the SM-like Higgs doublet exclusively to the third quark generation, while the firs t two generations couple exclusively to an additional source of electroweak symmetry breaking, potentially generating striking collider signatures. We synthesize the flavorful 2HDM with the `flavor-locking mechanism, that dynamically generates large quark mass hierarchies through a flavor-blind portal to distinct flavon and hierarchon sectors: Dynamical alignment of the flavons allows a unique hierarchon to control the respective quark masses. We further develop the theoretical construction of this mechanism, and show that in the context of a flavorful 2HDM-type setup, it can automatically achieve realistic flavor structures: The CKM matrix is automatically hierarchical with $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$ generically of the observed size. Exotic contributions to meson oscillation observables may also be generated, that may accommodate current data mildly better than the SM itself.
