A way to increase the Scanning Thermal Microscope (SThM) sensitivity in the harmonic 3w mode is to heat the probe with an AC current sufficiently high to generate a coupling between the AC and the DC signals. We detail in this paper how to properly take into account this coupling with a Wollaston-probe SThM. We also show how to link correctly the thermal conductivity to the thermal conductance measured by the SThM.
A simple, reliable method for preparation of bulk Cr tips for Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) is proposed and its potentialities in performing high-quality and high-resolution STM and Spin Polarized-STM (SP-STM) are investigated. Cr tips show ato
Sigma-phase intermetallic compound of Fe54Cr46 was investigated using DC and AC magnetic susceptibility techniques. A clear-cut evidence was found that the sample orders magnetically at Tc=23.5 K and its ground magnetic state is constituted by a spin
Below its Neel temperature, the frustrated magnet CdCr$_2$O$_4$ exhibits an antiferromagnetic spin-spiral ground state. Such states can give rise to a sizable magnetoelectric coupling. In this report, we measure the electric polarization induced in s
The dynamical fluorescent microthermal imaging (FMI) experiment has been used to investigate the phonon-magnon interaction in the 1D Heisenberg antiferromagnet La5Ca9Cu24O41. This material shows highly anisotropic heat conductivity due to the efficie
Light emission spectrum from a scanning tunnelling microscope (LESTM) is investigated as a function of relative humidity and shown to be a novel and sensitive means for probing the growth and properties of a water meniscus in the nm-scale. An empiric
