We present a sample microstate for a black ring in four and five dimensional language. The microstate consists of a black string microstate with an additional D6-brane. We show that with an appropriate choice of parameters the piece involving the black string microstate falls down a long AdS throat, whose M-theory lift is AdS_3 X S^2. We wrap a spinning dipole M2-brane on the S^2 in the probe approximation. In IIA, this corresponds to a dielectric D2-brane carrying only D0-charge. We conjecture this is the first approximation to a cloud of D0-branes blowing up due to their non-abelian degrees of freedom and the Myers effect.

We present a new family of asymptotic AdS_3 x S^2 solutions to eleven dimensional supergravity compactified on a Calabi-Yau threefold. They originate from the backreaction of S^2-wrapped M2-branes, which play a central role in the deconstruction prop osal for the microscopic interpretation of the D4-D0 black hole entropy. We show that they are free of possible pathologies such as closed timelike curves and discuss their holographic interpretation.
The dimensional-deconstruction prescription of Arkani-Hamed, Cohen, Kaplan, Karch and Motl provides a mechanism for recovering the $A$-type (2,0) theories on $T^2$, starting from a four-dimensional $mathcal N=2$ circular-quiver theory. We put this co njecture to the test using two exact-counting arguments: In the decompactification limit, we compare the Higgs-branch Hilbert series of the 4D $mathcal N=2$ quiver to the half-BPS limit of the (2,0) superconformal index. We also compare the full partition function for the 4D quiver on $S^4$ to the (2,0) partition function on $S^4 times T^2$. In both cases we find exact agreement. The partition function calculation sets up a dictionary between exact results in 4D and 6D.
We propose a four-dimensional supersymmetric theory that deconstructs, in a particular limit, the six-dimensional $(2,0)$ theory of type $D_k$. This 4d theory is defined by a necklace quiver with alternating gauge nodes $mathrm{O}(2k)$ and $mathrm{Sp }(k)$. We test this proposal by comparing the 6d half-BPS index to the Higgs branch Hilbert series of the 4d theory. In the process, we overcome several technical difficulties, such as Hilbert series calculations for non-complete intersections, and the choice of $mathrm{O}$ versus $mathrm{SO}$ gauge groups. Consistently, the result matches the Coulomb branch formula for the mirror theory upon reduction to 3d.
The geodesic equation in the five-dimensional singly rotating black ring is non-integrable unlike the case of the Myers-Perry black hole. In the Newtonian limit of the black ring, its geodesic equation agrees with the equation of motion of a particle in the Newtonian potential due to a homogeneous ring gravitational source. In this paper, we show that the Newtonian equation of motion allows the separation of variables in the spheroidal coordinates, providing an non-trivial constant of motion quadratic in momenta. This shows that the Newtonian limit of a black ring recovers the symmetry of its geodesic system, and the geodesic chaos is caused by relativistic effects.
This talk reviews recent progress in Higgsless models of electroweak symmetry breaking, and summarizes relevant points of model-building and phenomenology.
