Results are presented from numerical modeling of the effect of the inhomogeneity of the ion background on the complicated spatiotemporal dynamics of an electron beam with a virtual cathode in plane geometry. The possibility is demonstrated of increasing the generation frequency without changing the beam current. The spatiotemporal structures that form in the beam and govern the complicated stochastic dynamics of the nonuniform electron-plasma system under consideration are investigated by the methods of wavelet bicoherence and by analyzing the calculated electron trajectories on the space-time diagrams
Here, we demonstrate the radiative polarization of high-energy electron beams in collisions with ultrashort pulsed bi-chromatic laser fields. Employing a Boltzmann kinetic approach for the electron distribution allows us to simulate the beam polariza
We investigate the existence conditions and propagation properties of electron-acoustic solitary waves in a plasma consisting of an electron beam fluid, a cold electron fluid, and a hot suprathermal electron component modeled by a $kappa$-distributio
The electron beam-plasma system is ubiquitous in the space plasma environment. Here, using a Darwin particle-in-cell method, the excitation of electrostatic and whistler instabilities by a gyrating electron beam is studied in support of recent labora
Spin-polarization of an ultrarelativistic electron beam head-on colliding with an ultraintense laser pulse is investigated in the quantum radiation-reaction regime. We develop a Monte-Carlo method to model electron radiative spin effects in arbitrary
Recent technological advances allowed the coherent optical manipulation of high-energy electron wavepackets with attosecond precision. Here we theoretically investigate the collision of optically-modulated pulsed electron beams with atomic targets an
