In this report, we will briefly review the dynamical model of pion electroweak production reactions in the $Delta$ resonance region and report on our study of neutrino-nucleus reactions based on this model.
We have developed a dynamical model for a unified description of the pion-nucleus scattering and photo- and neutrino-induced coherent pion production on nuclei. Our approach is based on a combined use of the Sato-Lee model for the electroweak pion pr
oduction on a single nucleon and the Delta-hole model of pion-nucleus scattering. Numerical calculations are carried out for the case of the C12 target. After testing our model with the use of the pion photo-production data, we confront our predictions of the neutrino-induced coherent pion production reactions with the recent data from K2K and MiniBooNE.
We present a relativistic model for electroweak pion production from nuclei, focusing on the $Delta$ and the second resonance region. Bound states are derived in the Hartree approximation to the $sigma-omega$ Walecka model. Final-state interactions o
f the outgoing pion and nucleon are described in a factorized way by means of a relativistic extension of the Glauber model. Our formalism allows a detailed study of neutrino pion production through $Q^2$, $W$, energy, angle and out-of-plane distributions.
A dynamical coupled-channel model is presented for investigating the nucleon resonances in the meson production reactions induced by pions and photons. The model is based on an energy-independent Hamiltonian which is derived from a set of Lagrangians
by using a unitary transformation method. By applying the projection operator techniques,we derive a set of coupled-channel equations which satisfy the unitarity conditions within the channel space spanned by the considered two-particle meson-baryon states and the three-particle $pipi N$ state. We present and explain in detail a numerical method based on a spline-function expansion for solving the resulting coupled-channel equations which contain logarithmically divergent one-particle-exchange driving terms resulted from the $pipi N$ unitarity cut. We show that this driving term can generate rapidly varying structure in the reaction amplitudes associated with the unstable particle channels. It also has large effects in determining the two-pion production cross sections. Our results indicate that cautions must be taken to interpret the $N^*$ parameters extracted from using models which do not include $pipi N$ cut effects.
We study coherent pion production in neutrino-nucleus scattering in the energy region relevant to neutrino oscillation experiments of current interest. Our approach is based on a combined use of the Sato-Lee model of electroweak pion production on a
nucleon and the Delta-hole model of pion-nucleus reactions. Thus we develop a model which describes pion-nucleus scattering and electroweak coherent pion production in a unified manner. Numerical calculations are carried out for the case of the 12C target. All the free parameters in our model are fixed by fitting to both total and elastic differential cross sections for pi-12C scattering. Then we demonstrate the reliability of our approach by confronting our prediction for the coherent pion photo-productions with data. Finally, we calculate total and differential cross sections for neutrino-induced coherent pion production, and some of the results are (will be) compared with the recent (forthcoming) data from K2K, SciBooNE and MiniBooNE. We also study effect of the non-locality of the Delta-propagation in the nucleus, and compare the elementary amplitudes used in different microscopic calculations.
[Background] Above the nucleon resonance region, the $N(e,epi^pm)N$ data cannot be explained by conventional hadronic models. For example, the observed magnitude of the transverse cross section is significantly underestimated in a framework with Regg
eized background amplitudes. [Purpose] Develop a phenomenological framework for the $N(e,epi^pm)N$ reaction at high invariant mass $W$ and deep photon virtuality $Q^2$. [Method] Building on the work of Kaskulov and Mosel, a gauged pion-exchange current is introduced with a running cutoff energy for the proton electromagnetic transition form factor. A new transition form factor is proposed. It respects the correct on-shell limit, has a simple physical interpretation and reduces the number of free parameters by one. [Results] A study of the $W$ dependence of the $N(e,epi^pm)N$ lends support for the newly proposed transition form factor. In addition, an improved description of the separated and unseparated cross sections at $-t lesssim 0.5 ;text{GeV}^2$ is obtained. The predictions overshoot the measured unseparated cross sections for $-t > 0.5 ;text{GeV}^2$. Introducing a strong hadronic form factor in the Reggeized background amplitudes brings the calculations considerably closer to the high $-t$ data. [Conclusions] Hadronic models corrected for resonance/parton duality describe the separated pion electroproduction cross sections above the resonance region reasonably well at low $-t$. In order to validate the applicability of these models at high $-t$, separated cross sections are needed. These are expected to provide a more profound insight into the relevant reaction mechanisms.
