We have set limits on contributions of scalar interactions to nuclear beta decay. A magneto-optical trap (MOT) provides a localized source of atoms suspended in space, so the low-energy recoiling nuclei can freely escape and be detected in coincidence with the beta. This allows reconstruction of the neutrino momentum, and the measurement of the beta-neutrino correlation, in a more direct fashion than previously possible. The beta-neutrino correlation parameter of the 0+ to 0+ pure Fermi decay of 38mK is $tilde{a}$=0.9981+-0.0030+-0.0037, consistent with the standard model prediction a=1.
We have measured the angular distribution of recoiling daughter nuclei emitted from the Gamow-Teller $beta$ decay of spin-polarized $^{80}$Rb. The asymmetry of this distribution vanishes to lowest order in the Standard Model (SM) in pure Gamow-Teller
We review the use of laser cooling and trapping for Standard Model tests, focusing on trapping of radioactive isotopes. Experiments with neutral atoms trapped with modern laser cooling techniques are testing several basic predictions of electroweak u
The last decades brought an impressive progress in synthesizing and studying properties of nuclides located very far from the beta stability line. Among the most fundamental properties of such exotic nuclides, usually established first, is the half-l
The production and analysis of distributed sources of 24Na and 222Rn in the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) are described. These unique sources provided accurate calibrations of the response to neutrons, produced through photodisintegration of the
We report first time measurements of the beta-neutrino angular correlation based on the kinetic energy shift of protons emitted in parallel or anti-parallel directions with respect to the positron in the beta decay of $^{32}$Ar. This proof of princip
