Results regarding probable bifurcations from fixed points are presented in the context of general dynamical systems (real, random matrices), time-delay dynamical systems (companion matrices), and a set of mappings known for their properties as universal approximators (neural networks). The eigenvalue spectra is considered both numerically and analytically using previous work of Edelman et. al. Based upon the numerical evidence, various conjectures are presented. The conclusion is that in many circumstances, most bifurcations from fixed points of large dynamical systems will be due to complex eigenvalues. Nevertheless, surprising situations are presented for which the aforementioned conclusion is not general, e.g. real random matrices with Gaussian elements with a large positive mean and finite variance.

In this note, we design a discrete random walk on the real line which takes steps $0, pm 1$ (and one with steps in ${pm 1, 2}$) where at least $96%$ of the signs are $pm 1$ in expectation, and which has $mathcal{N}(0,1)$ as a stationary distribution. As an immediate corollary, we obtain an online version of Banaszczyks discrepancy result for partial colorings and $pm 1, 2$ signings. Additionally, we recover linear time algorithms for logarithmic bounds for the Koml{o}s conjecture in an oblivious online setting.

The system in which a small rigid ball is bouncing repeatedly on a massive at table vibrating vertically, so-called the bouncing ball system, has been widely studied. Under the assumption that the table is vibrating with a piecewise polynomial functi on of time, the bifurcation diagram changes qualitatively depending on the order of the polynomial function. We elucidate the mechanism of the difference in the bifurcation diagrams by focusing on the two-period solution. In addition, we derive the approximate curve of the branch close to the period-doubling bifurcation point in the case of the piecewise cubic function of time for the table vibration. We also performed numerical calculation, and we demonstrate that the approximations well reproduce the numerical results.
The inner structure of the attractor appearing when the Varley-Gradwell-Hassell population model bifurcates from regular to chaotic behaviour is studied. By algebraic and geometric arguments the coexistence of a continuum of neutrally stable limit cy cles with different periods in the attractor is explained.

This paper provides a first example of constructing Lyapunov functions in a class of piecewise linear systems with limit cycles. The method of construction helps analyze and control complex oscillating systems through novel geometric means. Special a ttention is stressed upon a problem not formerly solved: to impose consistent boundary conditions on the Lyapunov function in each linear region. By successfully solving the problem, the authors construct continuous Lyapunov functions in the whole state space. It is further demonstrated that the Lyapunov functions constructed explain for the different bifurcations leading to the emergence of limit cycle oscillation.
In this paper non-linear dynamics of a periodically forced excitable glow discharge plasma has been studied. The experiments were performed in glow discharge plasma where excitability was achieved for suitable discharge voltage and gas pressure. The plasma was first perturbed by a sub-threshold sawtooth periodic signal, and we obtained small sub-threshold oscillations. These oscillations showed resonance when the frequency of the perturbation was around the characteristic frequency the plasma, and hence may be useful to estimate characteristic of an excitable system. On the other hand, when the perturbation was supra-threshold, system showed frequency entrainments. We obtained harmonic frequency entrainments for perturbation frequency greater than the characteristic frequency of the system and for lesser than the characteristic frequency, system showed only excitable behaviour.
