Given a C*-algebra $A$, a discrete abelian group $X$ and a homomorphism $Theta: Xto$ Out$A$ defining the dual action group $Gammasubset$ aut$A$, the paper contains results on existence and characterization of Hilbert ${A,Gamma}$, where the action is given by $hat{X}$. They are stated at the (abstract) C*-level and can therefore be considered as a refinement of the extension results given for von Neumann algebras for example by Jones [Mem.Am.Math.Soc. 28 Nr 237 (1980)] or Sutherland [Publ.Res.Inst.Math.Sci. 16 (1980) 135]. A Hilbert extension exists iff there is a generalized 2-cocycle. These results generalize those in [Commun.Math.Phys. 15 (1969) 173], which are formulated in the context of superselection theory, where it is assumed that the algebra $A$ has a trivial center, i.e. $Z=C1$. In particular the well-known ``outer characterization of the second cohomology $H^2(X,{cal U}(Z),alpha_X)$ can be reformulated: there is a bijection to the set of all $A$-module isomorphy classes of Hilbert extensions. Finally, a Hilbert space representation (due to Sutherland in the von Neumann case) is mentioned. The C*-norm of the Hilbert extension is expressed in terms of the norm of this representation and it is linked to the so-called regular representation appearing in superselection theory.

Given a normal subgroup bundle $mathcal A$ of the isotropy bundle of a groupoid $Sigma$, we obtain a twisted action of the quotient groupoid $Sigma/mathcal A$ on the bundle of group $C^*$-algebras determined by $mathcal A$ whose twisted crossed produ ct recovers the groupoid $C^*$-algebra $C^*(Sigma)$. Restricting to the case where $mathcal A$ is abelian, we describe $C^*(Sigma)$ as the $C^*$-algebra associated to a $mathbf T$-groupoid over the tranformation groupoid obtained from the canonical action of $Sigma/mathcal A$ on the Pontryagin dual space of $mathcal A$. We give some illustrative examples of this result.
We present a general approach to a modular frame theory in C*-algebras and Hilbert C*-modules. The investigations rely on the idea of geometric dilation to standard Hilbert C*-modules over unital C*-algebras that possess orthonormal Hilbert bases, an d of reconstruction of the frames by projections and by other bounded modular operators with suitable ranges. We obtain frame representations and decomposition theorems, as well as similarity and equivalence results for frames. Hilbert space frames and quasi-bases for conditional expectations of finite index on C*-algebras appear as special cases. Using a canonical categorical equivalence of Hilbert C*-modules over commutative C*-algebras and (F)Hilbert bundles the results find a reintepretation for frames in vector and (F)Hilbert bundles. Fields of applications are investigations on Cuntz-Krieger-Pimsner algebras, on conditional expectations of finite index, on various ranks of C*-algebras, on classical frame theory of Hilbert spaces (wavelet and Gabor frames), and others. 2001: In the introduction we refer to related publications in detail.

In this short note we prove that the reduced group C*-algebra of a locally compact group admits a non-zero trace if and only if the amenable radical of the group is open. This completely answers a question raised by Forrest, Spronk and Wiersma.
For a finite, strongly connected $k$-graph $Lambda$, an Huef, Laca, Raeburn and Sims studied the KMS states associated to the preferred dynamics of the $k$-graph $C^*$-algebra $C^*(Lambda)$. They found that these KMS states are determined by the peri odicity of $Lambda$ and a certain Borel probability measure $M$ on the infinite path space $Lambda^infty$ of $Lambda$. Here we consider different dynamics on $C^*(Lambda)$, which arise from a functor $y: Lambda to mathbb{R}_+$ and were first proposed by McNamara in his thesis. We show that the KMS states associated to McNamaras dynamics are again parametrized by the periodicity group of $Lambda$ and a family of Borel probability measures on the infinite path space. Indeed, these measures also arise as Hausdorff measures on $Lambda^infty$, and the associated Hausdorff dimension is intimately linked to the inverse temperatures at which KMS states exist. Our construction of the metrics underlying the Hausdorff structure uses the functors $y: Lambda to mathbb{R}_+$; the stationary $k$-Bratteli diagram associated to $Lambda$; and the concept of exponentially self-similar weights on Bratteli diagrams.
Motivated by Exels inverse semigroup approach to combinatorial C*-algebras, in a previous work the authors defined an inverse semigroup associated with a labelled space. We construct a representation of the C*-algebra of a labelled space, inspired by how one might cut or glue labelled paths together, that proves that non-zero elements in the inverse semigroup correspond to non-zero elements in the C*-algebra. We also show that the spectrum of its diagonal C*-subalgebra is homeomorphic to the tight spectrum of the inverse semigroup associated with the labelled space.
