The low energy $J/psi$ photoproduction cross-section has been studied on the basis of the Pomeron model. To incorporate the discrepancy between experimental data and the predictionns by the conventional models, i.e. the sum of the soft Pomeron with intercept 1.08 and the hard Pomeron with intercept 1.418, a Regge trajectory associated with a scalar meson (f,a) exchange which we call supersoft Pomeron, is introduced additionally. To distinguish between the conventional model and this new additional Pomeron, observations related to other polarization observables in upcoming polarized experiments are discussed.

We analyze contributions to the heavy vector meson production with large transverse momentum in proton--proton and diffractive photon--proton scattering driven by an exchange of two Balitsky--Fadin--Kuraev--Lipatov Pomerons in the squared amplitudes. The Pomerons couple to a single parton and form a Pomeron loop closed by the vector meson impact factors. For the photon--proton case the diffractive cut of the Pomeron loop contributes, and for the inclusive hadroproduction one finds the loop with two cut Pomerons. We compute both of these Pomeron loop contributions and study in detail their properties. The results are then used to calculate the cross sections for diffractive $J/psi$ photoproduction with large transverse momentum at HERA and the correlated two Pomeron contribution for inclusive $J/psi$ and $Upsilon$ production cross sections at the LHC. Within a unified approach a good description of the photoproduction data is found, but correlated two Pomeron mechanism gives only a small contribution to hadroproduction of the vector mesons at the LHC.
$J/psi$ production in p-p ultra-peripheral collisions through the elastic and inelastic photoproduction processes, where the virtual photons emitted from the projectile interact with the target, are studied. The comparisions between the exact treatme nt results and the ones of equivalent photon approximation are expressed as $Q^{2}$ (virtuality of photon), $z$ and $p_{T}$ distributions, and the total cross sections are also estimated. The method developed by Martin and Ryskin is employed to avoid double counting when the different production mechanism are considered simultaneously. The numerical results indicate that, the equivalent photon approximation can be only applied to the coherent or elastic electromagnetic process, the improper choice of $Q^{2}_{mathrm{max}}$ and $y_{mathrm{max}}$ will cause obvious errors. And the exact treatment is needed to deal accurately with the $J/psi$ photoproduction.
We quantify perturbative and non-perturbative QCD effects in the exclusive $J/psi$-photoproduction cross section, and in the shrinkage of the differential cross section with respect to momentum transfer, $t$. We predict that in the high energy THERA region there will always be a significant contribution to this process that rises quickly with energy. This implies that the taming of the rise of the cross section with energy, due to both the expansion of spatially-small fluctuations in the photon and to higher twist effects, is rather gradual.

We present a nonperturbative QCD calculation of elastic $J/psi$ meson production in photon-proton scattering at high energies. Using light cone wave functions of the photon and vector mesons, and the framework of the model of the stochastic QCD vacuu m, we calculate the differential and integrated elastic cross sections for $gamma p goto J/psi p $ . With an energy dependence following the two-pomeron model we are able to give a consistent description of the integrated cross sections and the differential cross sections at low $|t|$ in the range from 20 GeV up to the highest HERA energies. We discuss different approaches to introduce saturation and find no specific effects up to energies presently available. We also calculate and compare to experiments the cross section for $upsilon$ photoproduction.

We study diffractive photoproduction of $J/psi$ by taking the charm quark as a heavy quark. A description of nonperturbative effect related to $J/psi$ can be made by using NRQCD. In the forward region of the kinematics, the interaction between the $c bar c$-pair and the initial hadron is due to exchange of soft gluons. The effect of the exchange can be studied by using the expansion in the inverse of the quark mass $m_c$. At the leading order we find that the nonperturbative effect related to the initial hadron is represented by a matrix element of field strength operators, which are separated in the moving direction of $J/psi$ in the space-time. The S-matrix element is then obtained without using perturbative QCD and the results are not based on any model. Corrections to the results can be systematically added. Keeping the dominant contribution of the S-matrix element in the large energy limit we find that the imaginary part of the S-matrix element is related to the gluon distribution for $xto 0$ with a reasonable assumption, the real part can be obtained with another approximation or with dispersion relation. Our approach is different than previous approaches and also our results are different than those in these approaches. The differences are discussed in detail. A comparison with experiment is also made and a qualitative agreement is found.
