We quantify perturbative and non-perturbative QCD effects in the exclusive $J/psi$-photoproduction cross section, and in the shrinkage of the differential cross section with respect to momentum transfer, $t$. We predict that in the high energy THERA region there will always be a significant contribution to this process that rises quickly with energy. This implies that the taming of the rise of the cross section with energy, due to both the expansion of spatially-small fluctuations in the photon and to higher twist effects, is rather gradual.

We calculate the cross section of diffractive dijet photoproduction in $ep$ scattering at next-to-leading order (NLO) of perturbative QCD (pQCD), which we supplement by a model of factorization breaking for the resolved-photon contribution. In this m odel, the suppression depends on the flavor and momentum fraction of the partons in the photon. We show that within experimental and theoretical uncertainties, the resulting approach provides a good description of the available HERA data in most of the bins. Hence, taken together with the observation that NLO pQCD explains well the data on diffractive photoproduction of open charm in $ep$ scattering, our model of factorization breaking presents a viable alternative to the scheme based on the global suppression factor.
We consider the J/psi photo-production data collected at HERA in the light of next-to-leading order predictions for the color-singlet yield and polarization. We find that, while the shapes of inclusive distributions in the transverse momentum and ine lasticity are well reproduced, the experimental rates are larger than those given by the color-singlet contribution alone. Furthermore, the next-to-leading order calculation predicts the J/psis to be mostly longitudinally polarized at high transverse momentum in contrast with the trend of the preliminary data from the ZEUS collaboration.
We study inclusive $J/psi$ photoproduction at NLO at large $P_T$ at HERA and the EIC. Our computation includes NLO QCD leading-$P_T$ corrections, QED contributions via an off-shell photon as well as those from $J/psi$+charm channels. For the latter, we employ the variable-flavour-number scheme. Our results are found to agree with the latest HERA data by H1 and provide, for the first time, a reliable estimate of the EIC reach for such a measurement. Finally, we demonstrate the observability of $J/psi$+charm production and the sensitivy to probe the non-perturbative charm content of the proton at high $x$, also known as intrinsic charm, at the EIC.

We study diffractive photoproduction of $J/psi$ by taking the charm quark as a heavy quark. A description of nonperturbative effect related to $J/psi$ can be made by using NRQCD. In the forward region of the kinematics, the interaction between the $c bar c$-pair and the initial hadron is due to exchange of soft gluons. The effect of the exchange can be studied by using the expansion in the inverse of the quark mass $m_c$. At the leading order we find that the nonperturbative effect related to the initial hadron is represented by a matrix element of field strength operators, which are separated in the moving direction of $J/psi$ in the space-time. The S-matrix element is then obtained without using perturbative QCD and the results are not based on any model. Corrections to the results can be systematically added. Keeping the dominant contribution of the S-matrix element in the large energy limit we find that the imaginary part of the S-matrix element is related to the gluon distribution for $xto 0$ with a reasonable assumption, the real part can be obtained with another approximation or with dispersion relation. Our approach is different than previous approaches and also our results are different than those in these approaches. The differences are discussed in detail. A comparison with experiment is also made and a qualitative agreement is found.

We evaluate the large momentum transfer $J/psi$ photoproduction with rapidity gaps in ultraperipheral proton-ion collisions at the LHC which provides an effective method of probing dynamics of large t elastic hard QCD Pomeron interactions. It is show n that the experimental studies of this process would allow to investigate the energy dependence of cross section of elastic scattering of a small $cbar c$ dipole off the gluon over a wide range of invariant energies 10^3 < s_{cbar c - gluon} < 10^6 GeV^2. The accessible energy range exceeds the one reached in gamma p at HERA by a factor of 10 and allows the kinematic cuts which improve greatly sensitivity to the Pomeron dynamics as compared to the HERA measurements. The cross section is expected to change by a factor ge 20 throughout this interval and our estimates predict quite reasonable counting rates for this process with the several of the LHC detectors.
