Recently, much work has been devoted to the calculation of order $alpha$ corrections to the decay rate of pionium, the $pi^+ pi^-$ bound state. In previous calculations, nonrelativistic QED corrections were neglected since they start at order $alpha^2$ in hydrogen and positronium. In this note, we point out that there is one correction which is actually of order $alpha$ times a function of the ratio $mu_r alpha / m_e$, where $mu_r$ is the reduced mass of the system. When $mu_r alpha ll m_e$, this function can be Taylor expanded and leads to higher order corrections. When $mu_r alpha approx m_e$, as is the case in pionium, the function is of order one and the correction is of order $alpha$. We use an effective field theory approach to calculate this correction and find it equal to $0.4298 alpha Gamma_0$. We also calculate the corresponding correction to the dimuonium ($mu^+ mu^-$ bound state) decay rate and obtained a result in agreement with Jentschura et al.

Positronium is an ideal system for the research of the bound state QED. New precise measurement of orthopositronium decay rate has been performed with an accuracy of 150 ppm. This result is consistent with the last three results and also the 2nd orde r correction. The result combined with the last three is 7.0401$pm0.0007mu mathrm{sec}^{-1}$ (100 ppm), which is consistent with the 2nd order correction and differs from the 1st order calculation by 2.6$sigma$ It is the first test to validate the 2nd order correction.
The order - alpha radiative corrections to the differential decay rate of polarized orthopositronium are obtained. Their influences on the three photons coincidence rate as a function of positronium polarization is considered.

We consider electromagnetic corrections to the non-leptonic kaon decay, $K^+topi^+pi^0pi^0$, due to explicit virtual photons only. The decay amplitude is calculated at one-loop level in the framework of Chiral Perturbation Theory. The interest in thi s process is twofold: It is actually measured by the NA48 collaboration from one side, and, the value of the amplitude at the $pipi$ threshold gives access to $pipi$ scattering lengths from the other side. We found that the present correction is about 5 to 6% the value of the Born amplitude squared. Combined with another piece published recently, this fixes the size of isospin breaking correction to the amplitude squared to 7% its one-loop level value in the absence of isospin breaking and at the center of Dalitz plot.

We report the progress in the measurement of the pionium lifetime by the DIRAC Collaboration at CERN (PS212). Based on data collected in 2001-2003 on Ni targets we have achieved the precision of 11% in the measurement of the pionium lifetime, which c orresponds to the measurement of S-wave pion-pion scattering lengths difference |a0-a2| with the accuracy of 6%.
We calculate the radiative corrections of order O(alpha E_e/m_N) as next-to-leading order corrections in the large nucleon mass expansion to Sirlins radiative corrections of order O(alpha/pi) to the neutron lifetime. The calculation is carried out wi thin a quantum field theoretic model of strong low-energy pion--nucleon interactions described by the linear sigma-model (LsM) with chiral SU(2)xSU(2) symmetry and electroweak hadron-hadron, hadron-lepton and lepton-lepton interactions for the electron-lepton family with SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y symmetry of the Standard Electroweak Model (SEM). Such a quantum field theoretic model is some kind a hadronized version of the Standard Model (SM). From a gauge invariant set of the Feynman diagrams with one-photon exchanges we reproduce Sirlins radiative corrections of order O(alpha/pi), calculated to leading order in the large nucleon mass expansion, and calculate next-to-leading corrections of order O(alpha E_e/m_N). This confirms Sirlins confidence level of the radiative corrections O(alpha E_e/m_N). The contributions of the LsM are taken in the limit of the infinite mass of the scalar isoscalar sigma-meson. In such a limit the LsM reproduces the results of the current algebra (Weinberg, Phys. Rev. Lett. {bf 18}, 188 (1967)) in the form of effective chiral Lagrangians of pion-nucleon interactions with non--linear realization of chiral SU(2)xSU(2) symmetry. In such a limit the L$sigma$M is also equivalent to Gasser-Leutwylers chiral quantum field theory or chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) with chiral SU(2)xSU(2)symmetry and the exponential parametrization of a pion-field (Ecker, Prog. Part. Nucl. Phys. {bf 35}, 1 (1995)).
