The existence of fractional charges carrying the current is experimentally demonstrated. Using a 2-D electron system in high magnetic field, we measure the shot noise associated with tunneling in the fractional quantum Hall regime at Landau level filling factor 1/3. The noise gives a direct determination of the quasiparticle charge, which is found to be e*=e/3 as predicted by Laughlin. The existence of e/3 Laughlin quasiparticles is unambiguously confirmed by the shot noise to Johnson-Nyquist noise cross-over found for temperature e*V/2k.

Strongly correlated low-dimensional systems can host exotic elementary excitations carrying a fractional charge $q$ and potentially obeying anyonic statistics. In the fractional quantum Hall effect, their fractional charge has been successfully deter mined owing to low frequency shot noise measurements. However, a universal method for sensing them unambiguously and unraveling their intricate dynamics was still lacking. Here, we demonstrate that this can be achieved by measuring the microwave photons emitted by such excitations when they are transferred through a potential barrier biased with a dc voltage $V_{text{dc}}$. We observe that only photons at frequencies $f$ below $qV_{text{dc}}/h$ are emitted. This threshold provides a direct and unambiguous determination of the charge $q$, and a signature of exclusion statistics. Derived initially within the Luttinger model, this feature is also predicted by universal non-equilibrium fluctuation relations which agree fully with our measurements. Our work paves the way for further exploration of anyonic statistics using microwave measurements.

The interference fragmentation function translates the fragmentation of a quark with a transverse projection of the spin into an azimuthal asymmetry of two final-state hadrons. In e+e- annihilation the product of two interference fragmentation functi ons is measured. We report nonzero asymmetries for pairs of charge-ordered pi+pi- pairs, which indicate a significant interference fragmentation function in this channel. The results are obtained from a 672 fb-1 data sample that contains 711 times 106 pi+pi- pairs and was collected at and near the ?(4S) resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.

The electronic structure of the Kondo lattice CeIn3 has been studied by on-resonant angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy. A weakly dispersive quasiparticle band has been observed directly with an en ergy dispersion of 4 meV by photoemission, implying the existence of weak hybridization between the f electrons and conduction electrons. The hybridization is further confirmed by the formation of the hybridization gap revealed by temperature-dependent scanning tunneling spectroscopy. Moreover, we find the hybridization strength in CeIn3 is much weaker than that in the more two-dimensional compounds CeCoIn5 and CeIrIn5. Our results may be essential for the complete microscopic understanding of this important compound and the related heavy-fermion systems.
The cross section for $e^+ e^- to pi^+ pi^- J/psi$ between 3.8 GeV and 5.5 GeV is measured with a 967 fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected by the Belle detector at or near the $Upsilon(nS)$ ($n = 1, 2, ..., 5$) resonances. The Y(4260) state is observed, a nd its resonance parameters are determined. In addition, an excess of $pi^+ pi^- J/psi$ production around 4 GeV is observed. This feature can be described by a Breit-Wigner parameterization with properties that are consistent with the Y(4008) state that was previously reported by Belle. In a study of $Y(4260) to pi^+ pi^- J/psi$ decays, a structure is observed in the $M(pi^pmjpsi)$ mass spectrum with $5.2sigma$ significance, with mass $M=(3894.5pm 6.6pm 4.5) {rm MeV}/c^2$ and width $Gamma=(63pm 24pm 26)$ MeV/$c^{2}$, where the errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. This structure can be interpreted as a new charged charmonium-like state.
We report the first observation of the rare eta->e+e-e+e- decay based on 1.7 fb^{-1} collected by the KLOE experiment at the DAFNE phi-factory. The selection of the e+e-e+e- final state is fully inclusive of radiation. We have identified 362 +- 29 ev ents resulting in a branching ratio of (2.4 +- 0.2_stat+bckg +- 0.1_syst) x 10^{-5}.
