Recent angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) has identified that a finite-range Frohlich electron-phonon interaction (EPI) with c-axis polarized optical phonons is important in cuprate superconductors, in agreement with an earlier proposal by Alexandrov and Kornilovitch. The estimated unscreened EPI is so strong that it could easily transform doped holes into mobile lattice bipolarons in narrow-band Mott insulators such as cuprates. Applying a continuous-time quantum Monte-Carlo algorithm (CTQMC) we compute the total energy, effective mass, pair radius, number of phonons and isotope exponent of lattice bipolarons in the region of parameters where any approximation might fail taking into account the Coulomb repulsion and the finite-range EPI. The effects of modifying the interaction range and different lattice geometries are discussed with regards to analytical strong-coupling/non-adiabatic results. We demonstrate that bipolarons can be simultaneously small and light, provided suitable conditions on the electron-phonon and electron-electron interaction are satisfied. Such light small bipolarons are a necessary precursor to high-temperature Bose-Einstein condensation in solids. The light bipolaron mass is shown to be universal in systems made of triangular plaquettes, due to a novel crab-like motion. Another surprising result is that the triplet-singlet exchange energy is of the first order in the hopping integral and triplet bipolarons are heavier than singlets in certain lattice structures at variance with intuitive expectations. Finally, we identify a range of lattices where superlight small bipolarons may be formed, and give estimates for their masses in the anti-adiabatic approximation.

We study a lattice bipolaron on a staggered triangular ladder and triangular and hexagonal lattices with both long-range electron-phonon interaction and strong Coulomb repulsion using a novel continuous-time quantum Monte-Carlo (CTQMC) algorithm exte nded to the Coulomb-Frohlich model with two particles. The algorithm is preceded by an exact integration over phonon degrees of freedom, and as such is extremely efficient. The bipolaron effective mass and bipolaron radius are computed. Lattice bipolarons on such lattices have a novel crablike motion, and are small but very light in a wide range of parameters, which leads to a high Bose-Einstein condensation temperature. We discuss the relevance of our results with current experiments on cuprate high-temperature superconductors and propose a route to room temperature superconductivity.
We report analytical and numerical results on the two-particle states of the polaronic t-Jp model derived recently with realistic Coulomb and electron-phonon (Frohlich) interactions in doped polar insulators. Eigenstates and eigenvalues are calculate d for two different geometries. Our results show that the ground state is a bipolaronic singlet, made up of two polarons. The bipolaron size increases with increasing ratio of the polaron hopping integral t to the exchange interaction Jp but remains small compared to the system size in the whole range 0<t/Jp<1. Furthermore, the model exhibits a phase transition to a superconducting state with a critical temperature well in excess of 100K. In the range t/Jp<1, there are distinct charge and spin gaps opening in the density of states, specific heat, and magnetic susceptibility well above Tc.
It is widely accepted that phonon-mediated high-temperature superconductivity is impossible at ambient pressure, because of the very large effective masses of polarons/bipolarons at strong electron-phonon coupling. Here we challenge this belief by sh owing that strongly bound yet very light bipolarons appear for strong Peierls/Su-Schrieffer-Heeger interaction. These bipolarons also exhibit many other unconventional properties, e.g. at strong coupling there are two low-energy bipolaron bands that are stable against strong on-site Hubbard repulsion. Using numerical simulations and analytical arguments, we show that these properties result from the specific form of the phonon-mediated interaction, which is of pair-hopping instead of regular density-density type. This unusual effective interaction is bound to have non-trivial consequences for the superconducting state expected to arise at finite carrier concentrations, and should favor a large critical temperature.
We investigate the band structure, nematic state and superconducting gap structure of two selected FeSe single crystals containing different amount of disorder. Transport and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements show that the small amount of disorder has little effect to the band structure and the nematic state of FeSe. However, temperature and magnetic field dependencies of specific heat for the two samples are quite different. Wave-vector-dependent gap structure are obtained from the three dimensional field-angle-resolved specific heat measurements. A small gap with two vertical-line nodes or gap minima along the $k_z$ direction is found only in the sample with higher quality. Such symmetry-unprotected nodes or gap minima are found to be smeared out by small amount of disorder, and the gap becomes isotropic in the sample of lower quality. Our study reveals that the reported controversy on the gap structure of FeSe is due to the disorder-sensitive node-like small gap.
We have used pulsed magnetic fields up to 60Tesla to suppress the contribution of superconducting fluctuations(SCF)to the conductivity above Tc in a series of YBa2Cu3O6+x from the deep pseudogapped state to slight overdoping. Accurate determinations of the SCF conductivity versus temperature and magnetic field have been achieved. Their joint quantitative analyses with respect to Nernst data allow us to establish that thermal fluctuations following the Ginzburg-Landau(GL) scheme are dominant for nearly optimally doped samples. The deduced coherence length xi(T) is in perfect agreement with a gaussian (Aslamazov-Larkin) contribution for 1.01Tc<T<1.2Tc. A phase fluctuation contribution might be invoked for the most underdoped samples in a T range which increases when controlled disorder is introduced by electron irradiation. For all dopings we evidence that the fluctuations are highly damped when increasing T or H. The data permits us to define a field Hc^prime and a temperature Tc^prime above which the SCF are fully suppressed. The analysis of the fluctuation magnetoconductance in the GL approach allows us to determine the critical field Hc2(0). The actual values of Hc^prime(0) and Hc2(0) are found quite similar and both increase with hole doping. These depairing fields, which are directly connected to the magnitude of the SC gap, do therefore follow the Tc variation which is at odds with the sharp decrease of the pseudogap T* with increasing hole doping. This is on line with our previous evidence that T* is not the onset of pairing. We finally propose a three dimensional phase diagram including a disorder axis, which allows to explain most peculiar observations done so far on the diverse cuprate families.
