We have determined the magnetic phase diagram of the quasi-one-dimensional $S=$ 1 Heisenberg antiferromagnet $Ni (C_5 H_{14} N_2)_2 N_3 (PF_6)$ by specific heat measurements to 150 mK in temperature and 32 T in magnetic field. When field is applied along the spin-chain direction, a new phase appears at $H_{c2}approx 14$ T. For the previously known phases of field-induced order, accurate determination is made of the power-law exponents of the ordering temperature near the zero-temperature critical field $H_c$, owing to the four-fold improvement of the minimum temperature over the previous work. The results are compared with the predictions based on the Bose-Einstein condensation of triplet excitations. Substituting deuterium for hydrogen is found to slightly reduce the interchain exchange.

We explore the field-temperature phase diagram of the XY pyrochlore antiferromagnet Er$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$, by means of magnetization and neutron diffraction experiments. Depending on the field strength and direction relative to the high symmetry cubic di rections $[001], [1bar{1}0]$ and $[111]$, the refined field induced magnetic structures are derived from the zero field $psi_2$ and $psi_3$ states of the $Gamma_5$ irreducible representation which describes the ground state of XY pyrochlore antiferromagnets. At low field, domain selection effects are systematically at play. In addition, for $[001]$, a phase transition is reported towards a $psi_3$ structure at a characteristic field $H_c^{001}=$ 43 mT. For $[1bar{1}0]$ and $[111]$, the spins are continuously tilted by the field from the $psi_2$ state, and no phase transition is found while domain selection gives rise to sharp anomalies in the field dependence of the Bragg peaks intensity. For $[1bar{1}0]$, these results are confirmed by high resolution inelastic neutron scattering experiments, which in addition allow us to determine the field dependence of the spin gap. This study agrees qualitatively with the scenario proposed theoretically by Maryasin {it et al.} [Phys. Rev. B {bf 93}, 100406(R) (2016)], yet the strength of the field induced anisotropies is significantly different from theory.
We report a study on the heat transport of an S = 1 Haldane chain compound Ni(C_3H_{10}N_2)_2NO_2ClO_4 at low temperatures and in magnetic fields. The zero-field thermal conductivities show a remarkable anisotropy for the heat current along the spin- chain direction (kappa_b) and the vertical direction (kappa_c), implying a magnetic contribution to the heat transport along the spin-chain direction. The magnetic-field-induced change of the spin spectrum has obviously opposite impacts on kappa_b and kappa_c. In particular, kappa_b(H) and kappa_c(H) curves show peak-like increases and dip-like decreases, respectively, at sim 9 T, which is the critical field that minimizes the spin gap. These results indicate a large magnetic thermal transport in this material.
Using novel instrumentation to combine extreme conditions of intense pulsed magnetic field up to 60~T and high pressure up to 4~GPa, we have established the three-dimensional (3D) magnetic field - pressure - temperature phase diagram of a pure stoich iometric heavy-fermion antiferromagnet (CeRh$_2$Si$_2$). We find a temperature- and pressure-dependent decoupling of the critical and pseudo-metamagnetic fields, at the borderlines of antiferromagnetism and strongly-correlated paramagnetism. This 3D phase diagram is representative of a class of heavy-fermion Ising antiferromagnets, where long-range magnetic ordering is decoupled from a maximum in the magnetic susceptibility. The combination of extreme conditions enabled us to characterize different quantum phase transitions, where peculiar quantum critical properties are revealed. The interest to couple the effects of magnetic field and pressure on quantum-critical correlated-electron systems is stressed.

A new U-based compound of the U2Rh2Pb, a new compound of the U2T2X series was prepared in a single-crystal form. Its structure was determined as belonging to the tetragonal Mo2FeB2 structure type with the shortest U-U spacing along the c. U2Rh2Pb und ergoes an antiferromagnetic transition at TN of 20 K and exhibits an enhanced Sommerfeld coefficient 150 mJ/molK2. In contrast to the two rhodium analogues U2Rh2In and U2Rh2Sn, the easy-magnetization direction is the c with rather low value of the critical field 4.3 T of the metamagnetic transition of a spin-flip type. The observed dependences of TN and Hc on temperature and magnetic field have been used for constructing a magnetic phase diagram. The experimental observations are mostly supported by first-principles calculations.
We consider the one-dimensional spin chain for arbitrary spin $s$ on a periodic chain with $N$ sites, the generalization of the chain that was studied by Blume and Capel cite{bc}: $$H=sum_{i=1}^N left(a (S^z_i)^2+ b S^z_iS^z_{i+1}right).$$ The Hamilt onian only involves the $z$ component of the spin thus it is essentially an Ising cite{Ising} model. The Hamiltonian also figures exactly as the anisotropic term in the famous model studied by Haldane cite{haldane} of the large spin Heisenberg spin chain cite{bethe}. Therefore we call the model the Blume-Capel-Haldane-Ising model. Although the Hamiltonian is trivially diagonal, it is actually not always obvious which eigenstate is the ground state. In this paper we establish which state is the ground state for all regions of the parameter space and thus determine the phase diagram of the model. We observe the existence of solitons-like excitations and we show that the size of the solitons depends only on the ratio $a/b$ and not on the number of sites $N$. Therefore the size of the soliton is an intrinsic property of the soliton not determined by boundary conditions.
