The possibility of comparatively simple and fast determination of characteristic relaxation parameters T1, T2 and T3 for nuclear spin-systems with strong Larmor and Rabi inhomogeneous broadenings of NMR lines using the secondary echo signal effect was experimentally shown. Resides, this method gives opportunity to obtain a valuable infomation on the inhomogeneous NMR broadening which reflects the character of magnetic field microscopic destribution in such systems, as example, multidomain magnetics and superconductors.

The work is devoted to the problem of multiple signals of nuclear spin echoes in magnets, excited by a series of radio-frequency (RF) arbitrary duration pulses exceeding the free induction decay time. The quantum-statistical approach based on the Lio uville equation solution for the statistical operator of system is developed for the investigation of echo-processes. The obtained theoretical results for the number of echo signals, time moments of their formation and their intensities are in good agreement with experiments carried out on magnets (ferrites, ferrometals, half metals, manganites). The pointed approach is general and could be applied to EPR and NQR, which is interesting also for its application for remote detection of explosives and narcotics. The application of wide RF pulses and their sequences makes it possible to accumulate weak signals, enriches the echo-response spectrum with clearly separated intensive lines, i.e. essentially increases the sensitivity of apparatus and, correspondingly, the possibilities to explore the fine details of dynamical and relaxation processes taking place in nuclear spin-systems with sufficiently long relaxation times. The work contains also results of new experiments on study of relaxation processes in these systems.
Three problems are considered in which inhomogeneous broadening can yield unusual consequences. One problem involves the energy levels of atoms moving within nanopores of nearly cylindrical cross section. A second involves atomic or molecular motion in a quasi-one dimensional interstitial channel within a bundle of carbon nanotubes. The third problem involves motion within a groove between two nanotubes at the surface of such a bundle. In each case, the density of states at low energy is qualitatively different from that occurring in the perfectly homogeneous case.
We demonstrate that intersubband (ISB) polaritons are robust to inhomogeneous effects originating from the presence of multiple quantum wells (MQWs). In a series of samples that exhibit mid-infrared ISB absorption transitions with broadenings varying by a factor of 5 (from 4 meV to 20meV), we have observed polariton linewidths always lying in the 4 - 7 meV range only. We have experimentally verified the dominantly inhomogeneous origin of the broadening of the ISB transition, and that the linewidth reduction effect of the polariton modes persists up to room-temperature. This immunity to inhomogeneous broadening is a direct consequence of the coupling of the large number of ISB oscillators to a single photonic mode. It is a precious tool to gauge the natural linewidth of the ISB plasmon , that is otherwise masked in such MQWs system , and is also beneficial in view of perspective applications such as intersubband polariton lasers.

The self-consistent field theory (SCFT) is a powerful framework for the study of the phase behavior and structural properties of many-body systems. In particular, polymeric SCFT has been successfully applied to inhomogeneous polymeric systems such as polymer blends and block copolymer melts. The polymeric SCFT is commonly derived using field-theoretical techniques. Here we provide an alternative derivation of the SCFT equations and SCFT free energy functional using a variational principle. Numerical methods of solving the SCFT equations and applications of the SCFT are also briefly introduced.

We study the temperature-dependent dephasing rate of excitons in chains of chromophores, accounting for scattering on static disorder as well as acoustic phonons in the host matrix. From this we find a powerlaw temperature dependence of the absorptio n line width, in excellent quantitative agreement with experiments on dye aggregates. We also propose a relation between the line width and the exciton coherence length imposed by the phonons. The results indicate that the much debated steep rise of the fluorescence lifetime of pseudo-isocyanine aggregates above 40 K results from the fact that this coherence length drops below the localization length imposed by static disorder.
