The hysteretic and reversible polarity-dependent resistive switch driven by electric pulses is studied in both Ag/Pr0.7Ca0.3MnO3/YBa2Cu3O7 sandwiches and single-layer Pr0.7Ca0.3MnO3 strips. The data demonstrate that the switch takes place at the Ag-Pr0.7Ca0.3MnO3 interface. A model, which describes the data well, is proposed. We further suggest that electrochemical diffusion is the cause for the switch.

The polarity-dependent resistive-switching across metal-Pr0.7Ca0.3MnO3 interfaces is investigated. The data suggest that shallow defects in the interface dominate the switching. Their density and fluctuation, therefore, will ultimately limit the devi ce size. While the defects generated/annihilated by the pulses and the associated carrier depletion seem to play the major role at lower defect density, the defect correlations and their associated hopping ranges appear to dominate at higher defect density. Therefore, the switching characteristics, especially the size-scalability, may be altered through interface treatments.
We have observed hysteresis in superconducting resistive transition curves of Ba$_{0.07}$K$_{0.93}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ ($T_csim$8 K) below about 1 K for in-plane fields. The hysteresis is not observed as the field is tilted away from the $ab$ plane by 20$^{ circ}$ or more. The temperature and angle dependences of the upper critical field indicate a strong paramagnetic effect for in-plane fields. We suggest that the hysteresis can be attributed to a first-order superconducting transition due to the paramagnetic effect. Magnetic torque data are also shown.
The resistive transition in nanocomposite films of silver (Ag) nanoclusters of ~ 1 nm diameter embedded in gold (Au) matrix exhibits an anomalous resistance peak at the onset of the transition, even for transition temperatures as high as 260 K. The m aximum value of the resistance ranges between ~ 30% - 300% above that of the normal state depending on devices as well as lead configuration within a single device. The excess resistance regime was observed in about 10% of the devices, and extends from ~ 10 - 100 K. Application of magnetic field of 9 T was found to partially suppress the excess resistance. From the critical current behavior, as well as negative differential resistance in the current-voltage characteristics, we discuss the possibility of interacting phase slip centers and alternate physical scenarios that may cause the excess resistance in our system.
We study a high-TC superconducting (YBa2Cu3O7-d) / ferromagnetic (Co/Pt multilayer) hybrid which exhibits resistance switching driven by the magnetic history: depending on the direction of the external field, a pronounced decrease or increase of the mixed-state resistance is observed as magnetization reversal occurs within the Co/Pt multilayer. We demonstrate that stray magnetic fields cause these effects via i) creation of vortices/antivortices and ii) magnetostatic pinning of vortices that are induced by the external field.
Josephson parametric amplifiers (JPA) have become key devices in quantum science and technology with superconducting circuits. In particular, they can be utilized as quantum-limited amplifiers or as a source of squeezed microwave fields. Here, we rep ort on the detailed measurements of five flux-driven JPAs, three of them exhibiting a hysteretic dependence of the resonant frequency versus the applied magnetic flux. We model the measured characteristics by numerical simulations based on the two-dimensional potential landscape of the dc superconducting quantum interference devices (dc-SQUID), which provide the JPA nonlinearity, for a finite screening parameter $beta_mathrm{L},{>},0$ and demonstrate excellent agreement between the numerical results and the experimental data. Furthermore, we study the nondegenerate response of different JPAs and accurately describe the experimental results with our theory.
