This paper presents the analytical and numerical analysis of fluctuational dynamics of ac hysteretic SQUID. It has been demonstrated, that the most important parameter for the improvement of the hysteretic SQUID sensitivity is the ratio between the pump and the characteristic frequencies but not their absolute values. The resonant behavior of signal-to-noise ratio as function of the pump frequency has been observed and the narrow area for the optimal pump frequency range is indicated.

The hysteretic ac loss of a current-carrying conductor in which multiple superconducting strips are polygonally arranged around a cylindrical former is theoretically investigated as a model of superconducting cables. Using the critical state model, w e analytically derive the ac loss $Q_n$ of a total of $n$ strips. The normalized loss $Q_n/Q_1$ is determined by the number of strips $n$ and the ratio of the strip width $2w$ to the diameter $2R$ of the cylindrical former. When $n>> 1$ and $w/R<< 1$, the behavior of $Q_n$ is similar to that of an infinite array of coplanar strips.
A simple analytical expression is presented for hysteretic ac loss $Q$ of a superconducting strip simultaneously exposed to an ac transport current $I_0cosomega t$ and a phase-different ac magnetic field $H_0cos(omega t+theta_0)$. On the basis of Bea ns critical state model, we calculate $Q$ for small current amplitude $I_0ll I_c$, for small magnetic field amplitude $H_0ll I_c/2pi a$, and for arbitrary phase difference $theta_0$, where $I_c$ is the critical current and $2a$ is the width of the strip. The resulting expression for $Q=Q(I_0,H_0,theta_0)$ is a simple biquadratic function of both $I_0$ and $H_0$, and $Q$ becomes maximum (minimum) when $theta_0=0$ or $pi$ ($theta_0=pi/2$).

Hysteretic ac losses in a thin, current-carrying superconductor strip located between two flat magnetic shields of infinite permeability are calculated using Beans model of the critical state. For the shields oriented parallel to the plane of the str ip, penetration of the self-induced magnetic field is enhanced, and the current dependence of the ac loss resembles that in an isolated superconductor slab, whereas for the shields oriented perpendicular to the plane of the strip, penetration of the self-induced magnetic field is impaired, and the current dependence of the ac loss is similar to that in a superconductor strip flanked by two parallel superconducting shields. Thus, hysteretic ac losses can strongly augment or, respectively, wane when the shields approach the strip.
We study the metastable response of a highly hysteretic DC-SQUID made of a Niobium loop interrupted by two nano-bridges. We excite the SQUID with an alternating current and with direct magnetic flux, and find different stability zones forming diamond -like structures in the measured voltage across the SQUID. When such a SQUID is embedded in a transmission line resonator similar diamond structures are observed in the reflection pattern of the resonator. We have calculated the DC-SQUID stability diagram in the plane of the exciting control parameters, both analytically and numerically. In addition, we have obtained numerical simulations of the SQUID equations of motion, taking into account temperature variations and non-sinusoidal current-phase relation of the nano-bridges. Good agreement is found between experimental and theoretical results.

Optical excitation in the cuprates has been shown to induce transient superconducting correlations above the thermodynamic transition temperature, $T_C$, as evidenced by the terahertz frequency optical properties in the non-equilibrium state. In YBa$ _2$Cu$_3$O$_{6+x}$ this phenomenon has so far been associated with the nonlinear excitation of certain lattice modes and the creation of new crystal structures. In other compounds, like La$_{2-x}$Ba$_x$CuO$_4$, similar effects were reported also for excitation at near infrared frequencies, and were interpreted as a signature of the melting of competing orders. However, to date it has not been possible to systematically tune the pump frequency widely in any one compound, to comprehensively compare the frequency dependent photo-susceptibility for this phenomenon. Here, we make use of a newly developed optical parametric amplifier, which generates widely tunable high intensity femtosecond pulses, to excite YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6.5}$ throughout the entire optical spectrum (3 - 750 THz). In the far-infrared region (3 - 25 THz), signatures of non-equilibrium superconductivity are induced only for excitation of the 16.4 THz and 19.2 THz vibrational modes that drive $c$-axis apical oxygen atomic positions. For higher driving frequencies (25 - 750 THz), a second resonance is observed around the charge transfer band edge at ~350 THz. These observations highlight the importance of coupling to the electronic structure of the CuO$_2$ planes, either mediated by a phonon or by charge transfer.
