We examine a central approximation of the recently introduced Dynamical Cluster Approximation (DCA) by example of the Hubbard model. By both analytical and numerical means we study non-compact and compact contributions to the thermodynamic potential. We show that approximating non-compact diagrams by their cluster analogs results in a larger systematic error as compared to the compact diagrams. Consequently, only the compact contributions should be taken from the cluster, whereas non-compact graphs should be inferred from the appropriate Dyson equation. The distinction between non-compact and compact diagrams persists even in the limit of infinite dimensions. Non-local corrections beyond the DCA exist for the non-compact diagrams, whereas they vanish for compact diagrams.

In this work, we adapt the formalism of the dynamical vertex approximation (D$Gamma$A), a diagrammatic approach including many-body correlations beyond the dynamical mean-field theory, to the case of attractive onsite interactions. We start by exploi ting the ladder approximation of the D$Gamma$A scheme, in order to derive the corresponding equations for the non-local self-energy and vertex functions of the attractive Hubbard model. Second, we prove the validity of our derivation by showing that the results obtained in the particle-hole symmetric case fully preserve the exact mapping between the attractive and the repulsive models. It will be shown, how this property can be related to the structure of the ladders, which makes our derivation applicable for any approximation scheme based on ladder diagrams. Finally, we apply our D$Gamma$A algorithm to the attractive Hubbard model in three dimensions, for different fillings and interaction values. Specifically, we focus on the parameters region in the proximity of the second-order transition to the superconducting and charge-density wave phases, respectively, and calculate (i) their phase-diagrams, (ii) their critical behavior, as well as (iii) the effects of the strong non-local correlations on the single-particle properties.

The phase diagram of the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model at half-filling is investigated by a weak coupling renormalization group method applicable beyond the usual continuum limit for the electron spectrum and coupling constants. We analyze t he influence of irrelevant momentum dependent interactions on asymptotic properties of the correlation functions and the nature of dominant phases for the lattice model under study.
Based on tensor network simulations, we discuss the emergence of dynamical quantum phase transitions (DQPTs) in a half-filled one-dimensional lattice described by the extended Fermi-Hubbard model. Considering different initial states, namely noninter acting, metallic, insulating spin and charge density waves, we identify several types of sudden interaction quenches which lead to dynamical criticality. In different scenarios, clear connections between DQPTs and particular properties of the mean double occupation or charge imbalance can be established. Dynamical transitions resulting solely from high-frequency time-periodic modulation are also found, which are well described by a Floquet effective Hamiltonian. State-of-the-art cold-atom quantum simulators constitute ideal platforms to implement several reported DQPTs experimentally.

We use the Random Dispersion Approximation (RDA) to study the Mott-Hubbard transition in the Hubbard model at half band filling. The RDA becomes exact for the Hubbard model in infinite dimensions. We implement the RDA on finite chains and employ the Lanczos exact diagonalization method in real space to calculate the ground-state energy, the average double occupancy, the charge gap, the momentum distribution, and the quasi-particle weight. We find a satisfactory agreement with perturbative results in the weak- and strong-coupling limits. A straightforward extrapolation of the RDA data for $Lleq 14$ lattice results in a continuous Mott-Hubbard transition at $U_{rm c}approx W$. We discuss the significance of a possible signature of a coexistence region between insulating and metallic ground states in the RDA that would correspond to the scenario of a discontinuous Mott-Hubbard transition as found in numerical investigations of the Dynamical Mean-Field Theory for the Hubbard model.
The interplay between the Kondo effect and magnetic ordering driven by the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction is studied within the two-dimensional Hubbard-Kondo lattice model. In addition to the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction, $J_perp $, between the localized and the conduction electrons, this model also contains the local repulsion, $U$, between the conduction electrons. We use variational cluster approximation to investigate the competition between the antiferromagnetic phase, the Kondo singlet phase, and a ferrimagnetic phase on square lattice. At half-filling, the Neel antiferromagnetic phase dominates from small to moderate $J_perp$ and $UJ_perp$, and the Kondo singlet elsewhere. Sufficiently away from half-filling, the antiferromagnetic phase first gives way to a ferrimagnetic phase (in which the localized spins order ferromagnetically, and the conduction electrons do likewise, but the two mutually align antiferromagnetically), and then to the Kondo singlet phase.
