Similarly to other cluster of galaxies previously classified as cooling flow systems, the Chandra observation of MKW3s reveals that this object has a complex X-ray structure hosting both a X-ray cavity and a X-ray filament. Unlike the other clusters, however, the temperature map of the core of MKW3s shows the presence of extended regions of gas heated above the radially averaged gas temperature at any radius. As the cluster does not show evidences for ongoing major mergers Mazzotta et al. suggest a connection between the heated gas and the activity of the central AGN. Nevertheless, due to the lack of high quality radio maps, this interpretation was controversial. In this paper we present the results of two new radio observations of MKW3s at 1.28GHz and 604MHz obtained at the GMRT. Together with the Chandra observation and a separate VLA observation at 327MHz from Young, we show unequivocal evidences for a close connection between the heated gas region and the AGN activity and we briefly summarize possible implications.

We report on the deep Chandra observation of central r=200kpc region of the cluster of galaxies MKW3s which was previously identified as a moderate cooling flow cluster. The Chandra image reveals two striking features -- a 100kpc long and 21kpc wide filament, extending from the center to the south-west and a nearly circular, 50kpc diameter depression 90 kpc south of the X-ray peak. The temperature map shows that the filamentary structure is colder while the surface brightness depression is hotter than the average cluster temperature at any radius. The hot and the cold regions indicate that both cooling and heating processes are taking place in the center of MKW3s. We argue that the surface brightness depression is produced by a heated, low-density gas bubble along the line of sight. We suggest that the heated bubble is produced by short-lived nuclear outbursts from the central galaxy.
In the geometric version of the Langlands correspondence, irregular singular point connections play the role of Galois representations with wild ramification. In this paper, we develop a geometric theory of fundamental strata to study irregular singu lar connections on the projective line. Fundamental strata were originally used to classify cuspidal representations of the general linear group over a local field. In the geometric setting, fundamental strata play the role of the leading term of a connection. We introduce the concept of a regular stratum, which allows us to generalize the condition that a connection has regular semisimple leading term to connections with non-integer slope. Finally, we construct a symplectic moduli space of meromorphic connections on the projective line that contain a regular stratum at each singular point.
We introduce a notion of measuring scales for quantum abelian gauge systems. At each measuring scale a finite dimensional affine space stores information about the evaluation of the curvature on a discrete family of surfaces. Affine maps from the spa ces assigned to finer scales to those assigned to coarser scales play the role of coarse graining maps. This structure induces a continuum limit space which contains information regarding curvature evaluation on all piecewise linear surfaces with boundary. The evaluation of holonomies along loops is also encoded in the spaces introduced here; thus, our framework is closely related to loop quantization and it allows us to discuss effective theories in a sensible way. We develop basic elements of measure theory on the introduced spaces which are essential for the applicability of the framework to the construction of quantum abelian gauge theories.
We present Chandra and XMM-Newton X-ray, VLA radio, and optical observations of three candidate Compact Steep Spectrum (CSS) radio galaxies. CSS sources are galactic scale and are presumably driving a shock through the ISM of their host galaxy. B3 14 45+410 is a low excitation emission line CSS radio galaxy with possibly a hybrid Fanaroff-Riley FRI/II (or Fat Double) radio morphology. The Chandra observations reveal a point-like source which is well fit with a power law consistent with emission from a Doppler boosted core. 3C 268.3 is a CSS broad line radio galaxy whose Chandra data are consistent spatially with a point source centered on the nucleus and spectrally with a double power-law model. PKS B1017-325 is a low excitation emission line radio galaxy with a bent double radio morphology. While from our new spectroscopic redshift, PKS B1017-325 falls outside the formal definition of a CSS, the XMNM-Newton observations are consistent with ISM emission with either a contribution from hot shocked gas or non-thermal jet emission. We compile selected radio and X-ray properties of the nine bona fide CSS radio galaxies with X-ray detections so far. We find that 2/9 show X-ray spectroscopic evidence for hot shocked gas. We note that the counts in the sources are low and the properties of the 2 sources with evidence for hot shocked gas are typical of the other CSS radio galaxies. We suggest that hot shocked gas may be typical of CSS radio galaxies due to their propagation through their host galaxies.

An important aspect of the radio emission from galaxy clusters is represented by the diffuse radio sources associated with the intracluster medium: radio halos, relics and mini-halos. The radio halos and relics are indicators of cluster mergers, wher eas mini-halos are detected at the center of cooling core clusters. SKA will dramatically improve the knowledge of these sources, thanks to the detection of new objects, and to detailed studies of their spectra and polarized emission. SKA will also provide the opportunity to investigate the presence of halos produced by radiation scattered by a powerful radio galaxy at the cluster centers.
