Between 1996 and 2002, we have carried out a spectral monitoring program for the Seyfert galaxy NGC 5548. High quality spectra (S/N>50), covering the spectral range (4000-7500)AA were obtained with the 6 m and 1 m telescopes of SAO (Russia) and with the 2.1 m telescope GHO (Mexico). We found that both the flux in the lines and the continuum gradually decreased, reaching minimum values during May-June 2002. The mean, rms, and the averaged over years, observed and difference line profiles of H-alpha and H-beta reveal the double peaked structure at the radial velocity ~+-1000km/s. The relative intensity of these peaks changes with time. During 1996, the red peak was the brightest, while in 1998 - 2002, the blue peak became the brighter one. In 2000-2002 a distinct third peak appeared in the red wing of H-alpha and H-beta line profiles. The radial velocity of this feature decreased between 2000 and 2002 from ~+2500 km/s to ~+2000 km/s. The fluxes of the various parts of the line profiles are well correlated with each other and also with the continuum flux. Shape changes of the different parts of the broad line are not correlated with continuum variations and, apparently, are not related to reverberation effects. Changes of the integral Balmer decrement are, on average, anticorrelated with the continuum flux variations. This is probably due to an increasing role of collisional excitation as the ionizing flux decreases. Our results favor the formation of the broad Balmer lines in a turbulent accretion disc with large and moving optically thick inhomogeneities, capable of reprocessing the central source continuum.

iPTF13ehe is a hydrogen-poor superluminous supernova (SLSN) at z=0.3434, with a slow-evolving light curve and spectral features similar to SN2007bi. It rises within (83-148)days (rest-frame) to reach a peak bolometric luminosity of 1.3x$10^{44}$erg/s , then decays very slowly at 0.015mag. per day. The measured ejecta velocity is 13000km/s. The inferred explosion characteristics, such as the ejecta mass (67-220$M_odot$), the total radiative and kinetic energy ($10^{51}$ & 2x$10^{53}$erg respectively), is typical of a slow-evolving H-poor SLSN event. However, the late-time spectrum taken at +251days reveals a Balmer Halpha emission feature with broad and narrow components, which has never been detected before among other H-poor SLSNe. The broad component has a velocity width of ~4500km/s and has a ~300km/s blue-ward shift relative to the narrow component. We interpret this broad H$alpha$ emission with luminosity of $sim$2$times10^{41}$,erg,s$^{-1}$ as resulting from the interaction between the supernova ejecta and a discrete H-rich shell, located at a distance of $sim4times10^{16}$,cm from the explosion site. This ejecta-CSM interaction causes the rest-frame r-band LC to brighten at late times. The fact that the late-time spectra are not completely absorbed by the shock ionized CSM shell implies that its Thomson scattering optical depth is likely <1, thus setting upper limits on the CSM mass <30$M_odot$ and the volume number density <4x$10^8cm^{-3}$. Of the existing models, a Pulsational Pair Instability Supernova model can naturally explain the observed 30$M_odot$ H-shell, ejected from a progenitor star with an initial mass of (95-150)$M_odot$ about 40 years ago. We estimate that at least $sim$15% of all SLSNe-I may have late-time Balmer emission lines.

The Be phenomenon is present in about 20$%$ of the B-type stars. Be stars show variability on a broad range of timescales, which in most cases is related to the presence of a circumstellar disk of variable size and structure. For this reason a time r esolved survey is highly desirable in order to understand the mechanisms of disk formation which are still poorly understood. In addition, a complete observational sample would improve the statistical significance of the study of the stellar and disk parameters. The Be Stars Observation Survey (BeSOS) is a survey containing reduced spectra obtained using the echelle spectrograph PUCHEROS with a spectral resolution of 17000 in the range of 4260-7300 $text{AA}$. BeSOSs main objective is to offer consistent spectroscopic and time resolved data obtained with one instrument. The user can download or plot the data and get the stellar parameters directly from the website. We also provide a star-by-star analysis based on photometric, spectroscopic and interferometric data as well as general information about the whole BeSOS sample. Recently, BeSOS led to the discovery of a new Be star HD 42167 and facilitated study of the V/R variation of HD 35165 and HD 120324, the steady disk of HD 110335 and the Be shell status of HD 127972. Optical spectra used in this work, as well as the derived stellar parameters are available online in url{http://besos.ifa.uv.cl}.

We present template radial velocity curves of $ab$-type RR Lyrae stars constructed from high-precision measurements of ${rm Halpha}$, ${rm Hbeta}$, and ${rm Hgamma}$ lines. Amplitude correlations between the Balmer line velocity curves, Johnson $V$-b and, and SDSS $g$- and $r$-band light curves are also derived. Compared to previous methods, these templates and derived correlations reduce the uncertainty in measured systemic (center-of-mass) velocities of RR Lyrae stars by up to 15 {kms}, and will be of particular interest to wide-area spectroscopic surveys such as the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and LAMOST Experiment for Galactic Understanding and Exploration (LEGUE).
Symbiotic stars often exhibit broad wings around Balmer emission lines, whose origin is still controversial. We present the high resolution spectra of the S type symbiotic stars Z Andromedae and AG Draconis obtained with the ESPaDOnS and the 3.6 m Ca nada France Hawaii Telescope to investigate the broad wings around H$alpha$ and H$beta$. When H$alpha$ and H$beta$ lines are overplotted in the Doppler space, it is noted that H$alpha$ profiles are overall broader than H$beta$ in these two objects. Adopting a Monte Carlo approach, we consider the formation of broad wings of H$alpha$ and H$beta$ through Raman scattering of far UV radiation around Ly$beta$ and Ly$gamma$ and Thomson scattering by free electrons. Raman scattering wings are simulated by choosing an H I region with a neutral hydrogen column density $N_{HI}$ and a covering factor $CF$. For Thomson wings, the ionized scattering region is assumed to cover fully the Balmer emission nebula and is characterized by the electron temperature $T_e$ and the electron column density $N_e$. Thomson wings of H$alpha$ and H$beta$ have the same width that is proportional to $T_e^{1/2}$. However, Raman wings of H$alpha$ are overall three times wider than H$beta$ counterparts, which is attributed to different cross section for Ly$beta$ and Ly$gamma$. Normalized to have the same peak values and presented in the Doppler factor space. H$alpha$ wings of Z And and AG Dra are observed to be significantly wider than H$beta$ counterpart, favoring the Raman scattering origin of broad Balmer wings.
We present estimates of magnetic field in a number of AGNs from the Spectropolarimetric atlas of Smith, Young & Robinson (2002) from the observed degrees of linear polarization and the positional angles of spectral lines (H-alpha) (broad line regions of AGNs) and nearby continuum. The observed polarization is lower than the Milne value in a non-magnetized atmosphere. We hypothesize that the polarized radiation escapes from optically thick magnetized accretion discs and is weakened by the Faraday rotation effect. This effect is able to explain both the value of the polarization and the position angle. We estimate the required magnetic field in the broad line region by using simple asymptotic analytical formulas for Milnes problem in magnetized atmosphere, which take into account the last scattering of radiation before escaping from the accretion disc. The polarization of a broad spectral line escaping from disc is described by the same mechanism. The characteristic features of polarization of a broad line is the minimum of the degree of polarization in the center of the line and continuous rotation of the position angle from one wing to another. These effects can be explained by existence of clouds in the left (velocity is directed to an observer) and the right (velocity is directed from an observer) parts of the orbit in a rotating keplerian magnetized accretion disc. The base of explanation is existence of azimuthal magnetic field in the orbit. The existence of normal component of magnetic field makes the picture of polarization asymmetric. The existence of clouds in left and right parts of the orbit with different emissions also give the contribution in asymmetry effect. Assuming a power-law dependence of the magnetic field inside the disc, we obtain the estimate of the magnetic field strength at first stable orbit near the central SMBH for a number of AGNs.
