Taxi arrival time prediction is an essential part of building intelligent transportation systems. Traditional arrival time estimation methods mainly rely on traffic map feature extraction, which can not model complex situations and nonlinear spatial and temporal relationships. Therefore, we propose a Multi-View Spatial-Temporal Model (MVSTM) to capture the dependence of spatial-temporal and trajectory. Specifically, we use graph2vec to model the spatial view, dual-channel temporal module to model the trajectory view, and structural embedding to model the traffic semantics. Experiments on large-scale taxi trajectory data show that our approach is more effective than the novel method. Estimating the travel time of any route is of great importance for trip planners, traffic operators, online taxi dispatching and ride-sharing platforms, and navigation provider systems. With the advance of technology, many traveling cars, including o nline taxi dispatch systems vehicles are equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) devices that can report the location of the vehicle every few seconds. This paper uses GPS data and the Matrix Factorization techniques to estimate the travel times on all road segments and time intervals simultaneously. We aggregate GPS data into a matrix, where each cell of the original matrix contains the average vehicle speed for a segment and a specific time interval. One of the problems with this matrix is its high sparsity. We use Alternating Least Squares (ALS) method along with a regularization term to factorize the matrix. Since this approach can solve the sparsity problem that arises from the absence of cars in many road segments in a specific time interval, matrix factorization is suitable for estimating the travel time. Our comprehensive evaluation results using real data provided by one of the largest online taxi dispatching systems in Iran, shows the strength of our proposed method.
In an intelligent transportation system, the key problem of traffic forecasting is how to extract the periodic temporal dependencies and complex spatial correlation. Current state-of-the-art methods for traffic flow forecasting are based on graph arc hitectures and sequence learning models, but they do not fully exploit spatial-temporal dynamic information in the traffic system. Specifically, the temporal dependence of the short-range is diluted by recurrent neural networks, and the existing sequence model ignores local spatial information because the convolution operation uses global average pooling. Besides, there will be some traffic accidents during the transitions of objects causing congestion in the real world that trigger increased prediction deviation. To overcome these challenges, we propose the Spatial-Temporal Conv-sequence Learning (STCL), in which a focused temporal block uses unidirectional convolution to effectively capture short-term periodic temporal dependence, and a spatial-temporal fusion module is able to extract the dependencies of both interactions and decrease the feature dimensions. Moreover, the accidents features impact on local traffic congestion, and position encoding is employed to detect anomalies in complex traffic situations. We conduct a large number of experiments on real-world tasks and verify the effectiveness of our proposed method.

Nowadays, artificial neural networks are widely used for users online travel planning. Personalized travel planning has many real applications and is affected by various factors, such as transportation type, intention destination estimation, budget l imit and crowdness prediction. Among those factors, users intention destination prediction is an essential task in online travel platforms. The reason is that, the user may be interested in the travel plan only when the plan matches his real intention destination. Therefore, in this paper, we focus on predicting users intention destinations in online travel platforms. In detail, we act as online travel platforms (such as Fliggy and Airbnb) to recommend travel plans for users, and the plan consists of various vacation items including hotel package, scenic packages and so on. Predicting the actual intention destination in travel planning is challenging. Firstly, users intention destination is highly related to their travel status (e.g., planning for a trip or finishing a trip). Secondly, users actions (e.g. clicking, searching) over different product types (e.g. train tickets, visa application) have different indications in destination prediction. Thirdly, users may mostly visit the travel platforms just before public holidays, and thus user behaviors in online travel platforms are more sparse, low-frequency and long-period. Therefore, we propose a Deep Multi-Sequences fused neural Networks (DMSN) to predict intention destinations from fused multi-behavior sequences. Real datasets are used to evaluate the performance of our proposed DMSN models. Experimental results indicate that the proposed DMSN models can achieve high intention destination prediction accuracy.
Machine learning has proved to be very successful for making predictions in travel behavior modeling. However, most machine-learning models have complex model structures and offer little or no explanation as to how they arrive at these predictions. I nterpretations about travel behavior models are essential for decision makers to understand travelers preferences and plan policy interventions accordingly. Therefore, this paper proposes to apply and extend the model distillation approach, a model-agnostic machine-learning interpretation method, to explain how a black-box travel mode choice model makes predictions for the entire population and subpopulations of interest. Model distillation aims at compressing knowledge from a complex model (teacher) into an understandable and interpretable model (student). In particular, the paper integrates model distillation with market segmentation to generate more insights by accounting for heterogeneity. Furthermore, the paper provides a comprehensive comparison of student models with the benchmark model (decision tree) and the teacher model (gradient boosting trees) to quantify the fidelity and accuracy of the students interpretations.
Multi-variate time series (MTS) data is a ubiquitous class of data abstraction in the real world. Any instance of MTS is generated from a hybrid dynamical system and their specific dynamics are usually unknown. The hybrid nature of such a dynamical s ystem is a result of complex external attributes, such as geographic location and time of day, each of which can be categorized into either spatial attributes or temporal attributes. Therefore, there are two fundamental views which can be used to analyze MTS data, namely the spatial view and the temporal view. Moreover, from each of these two views, we can partition the set of data samples of MTS into disjoint forecasting tasks in accordance with their associated attribute values. Then, samples of the same task will manifest similar forthcoming pattern, which is less sophisticated to be predicted in comparison with the original single-view setting. Considering this insight, we propose a novel multi-view multi-task (MVMT) learning framework for MTS forecasting. Instead of being explicitly presented in most scenarios, MVMT information is deeply concealed in the MTS data, which severely hinders the model from capturing it naturally. To this end, we develop two kinds of basic operations, namely task-wise affine transformation and task-wise normalization, respectively. Applying these two operations with prior knowledge on the spatial and temporal view allows the model to adaptively extract MVMT information while predicting. Extensive experiments on three datasets are conducted to illustrate that canonical architectures can be greatly enhanced by the MVMT learning framework in terms of both effectiveness and efficiency. In addition, we design rich case studies to reveal the properties of representations produced at different phases in the entire prediction procedure.
