Personality-aware recommendation systems have been proven to achieve high accuracy compared to conventional recommendation systems. In addition to that, personality-aware recommendation systems could help alleviate cold start and data sparsity problems. Most of the existing works use Big-Five personality model to represent the users personality, this is due to the popularity of Big-Five model in the literature of psychology. However, from personality computing perspective, the choice of the most suitable personality model that satisfy the requirements of the recommendation application and the recommended content type still needs further investigation. In this paper, we study and compare four personality-aware recommendation systems based on different personality models, namely Big-Five, Eysenck and HEXACO from the personality traits theory, and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MPTI) from the personality types theory. Following that, we propose a hybrid personality model for recommendation that takes advantage of the personality traits models, as well as the personality types models. Through extensive experiments on recommendation dataset, we prove the efficiency of the proposed model, especially in cold start settings.

With the emergence of personality computing as a new research field related to artificial intelligence and personality psychology, we have witnessed an unprecedented proliferation of personality-aware recommendation systems. Unlike conventional recom mendation systems, these new systems solve traditional problems such as the cold start and data sparsity problems. This survey aims to study and systematically classify personality-aware recommendation systems. To the best of our knowledge, this survey is the first that focuses on personality-aware recommendation systems. We explore the different design choices of personality-aware recommendation systems, by comparing their personality modeling methods, as well as their recommendation techniques. Furthermore, we present the commonly used datasets and point out some of the challenges of personality-aware recommendation systems.
As a result of the importance of academic collaboration at smart conferences, various researchers have utilized recommender systems to generate effective recommendations for participants. Recent research has shown that the personality traits of users can be used as innovative entities for effective recommendations. Nevertheless, subjective perceptions involving the personality of participants at smart conferences are quite rare and havent gained much attention. Inspired by the personality and social characteristics of users, we present an algorithm called Socially and Personality Aware Recommendation of Participants (SPARP). Our recommendation methodology hybridizes the computations of similar interpersonal relationships and personality traits among participants. SPARP models the personality and social characteristic profiles of participants at a smart conference. By combining the above recommendation entities, SPARP then recommends participants to each other for effective collaborations. We evaluate SPARP using a relevant dataset. Experimental results confirm that SPARP is reliable and outperforms other state-of-the-art methods.
We present a novel trajectory prediction algorithm for pedestrians based on a personality-aware probabilistic feature map. This map is computed using a spatial query structure and each value represents the probability of the predicted pedestrian pass ing through various positions in the crowd space. We update this map dynamically based on the agents in the environment and prior trajectory of a pedestrian. Furthermore, we estimate the personality characteristics of each pedestrian and use them to improve the prediction by estimating the shortest path in this map. Our approach is general and works well on crowd videos with low and high pedestrian density. We evaluate our model on standard human-trajectory datasets. In practice, our prediction algorithm improves the accuracy by 5-9% over prior algorithms.
In this paper, we explore the ability to model and infer personality types of opponents, predict their responses, and use this information to adapt a dialog agents high-level strategy in negotiation tasks. Inspired by the idea of incorporating a theo ry of mind (ToM) into machines, we introduce a probabilistic formulation to encapsulate the opponents personality type during both learning and inference. We test our approach on the CraigslistBargain dataset and show that our method using ToM inference achieves a 20% higher dialog agreement rate compared to baselines on a mixed population of opponents. We also find that our model displays diverse negotiation behavior with different types of opponents.
With the advent of deep learning, neural network-based recommendation models have emerged as an important tool for tackling personalization and recommendation tasks. These networks differ significantly from other deep learning networks due to their n eed to handle categorical features and are not well studied or understood. In this paper, we develop a state-of-the-art deep learning recommendation model (DLRM) and provide its implementation in both PyTorch and Caffe2 frameworks. In addition, we design a specialized parallelization scheme utilizing model parallelism on the embedding tables to mitigate memory constraints while exploiting data parallelism to scale-out compute from the fully-connected layers. We compare DLRM against existing recommendation models and characterize its performance on the Big Basin AI platform, demonstrating its usefulness as a benchmark for future algorithmic experimentation and system co-design.
