We study the possibility of triply-degenerate points (TPs) that can be stabilized in spinless crystalline systems. Based on an exhaustive search over all 230 space groups, we find that the spinless TPs can exist at both high-symmetry points and high-symmetry paths, and they may have either linear or quadratic dispersions. For TPs located at high-symmetry points, they all share a common minimal set of symmetries, which is the point group $T$. The TP protected solely by the $T$ group is chiral and has a Chern number of $pm2$. By incorporating additional symmetries, this TP can evolve into chiral pseudospin-1 point, linear TP without chirality, or quadratic contact TP. For accidental TPs residing on a high-symmetry path, they are not chiral but can have either linear or quadratic dispersions in the plane normal to the path. We further construct effective $kcdot p$ models and minimal lattice models for characterizing these TPs. Distinguished phenomena for the chiral TPs are discussed, including the extensive surface Fermi arcs and the chiral Landau bands.

Recent progress in nanofabrication and additive manufacturing have facilitated the building of nanometer-scale three-dimensional structures, that promise to lead to an emergence of new functionalities within a number of fields, compared to state-of-t he-art two dimensional systems. In magnetism, the move to three-dimensional systems offers the possibility for novel magnetic properties not available in planar systems, as well as enhanced performance, both of which are key for the development of new technological applications. In this review paper we will focus our attention on three-dimensional magnetic systems and how their magnetic configuration can be retrieved using X-ray magnetic nanotomography.
We study theoretically the transport properties of a three-dimensional spin texture made from three orthogonal helices, which is essentially a lattice of monopole-antimonopole pairs connected by Skyrmion strings. This spin structure is proposed for M nGe based on the neutron scattering experiment as well as the Lorentz transmission electron microscopy observation. Equipped with a sophisticated spectral analysis method, we adopt finite temperature Greens function technique to calculate the longitudinal dc electric transport in such system. We consider conduction electrons interacting with spin waves of the topologically nontrivial spin texture, wherein fluctuations of monopolar emergent magnetic field enter. We study in detail the behavior of electric resistivity under the influence of temperature, external magnetic field and a characteristic monopole motion, especially a novel magnetoresistivity effect describing the latest experimental observations in MnGe, wherein a topological phase transition signifying strong correlation is identified.
The past decade has witnessed a surge of interest in exploring emergent particles in condensed matter systems. Novel particles, emerged as excitations around exotic band degeneracy points, continue to be reported in real materials and artificially en gineered systems, but so far, we do not have a complete picture on all possible types of particles that can be achieved. Here, via systematic symmetry analysis and modeling, we accomplish a complete list of all possible particles in time reversal-invariant systems. This includes both spinful particles such as electron quasiparticles in solids, and spinless particles such as phonons or even excitations in electric-circuit and mechanical networks. We establish detailed correspondence between the particle, the symmetry condition, the effective model, and the topological character. This obtained encyclopedia concludes the search for novel emergent particles and provides concrete guidance to achieve them in physical systems.
The ability to experimentally map the three-dimensional structure and dynamics in bulk and patterned three-dimensional ferromagnets is essential both for understanding fundamental micromagnetic processes, as well as for investigating technologically- relevant micromagnets whose functions are connected to the presence and dynamics of fundamental micromagnetic structures, such as domain walls and vortices. Here, we demonstrate time-resolved magnetic laminography, a technique which offers access to the temporal evolution of a complex three-dimensional magnetic structure with nanoscale resolution. We image the dynamics of the complex three-dimensional magnetization state in a two-phase bulk magnet with a lateral spatial resolution of 50 nm, mapping the transition between domain wall precession and the dynamics of a uniform magnetic domain that is attributed to variations in the magnetization state across the phase boundary. The capability to probe three-dimensional magnetic structures with temporal resolution paves the way for the experimental investigation of novel functionalities arising from dynamic phenomena in bulk and three-dimensional patterned nanomagnets.
Graphene, a two dimensional (2D) carbon sheet, acquires many of its amazing properties from the Dirac point nature of its electronic structures with negligible spin-orbit coupling. Extending to 3D space, graphene networks with negative curvature, cal led Mackay-Terrones crystals (MTC), have been proposed and experimentally explored, yet their topological properties remain to be discovered. Based on the first-principle calculations, we report an all-carbon MTC with topologically non-trivial electronic states by exhibiting node-lines in bulk. When the node-lines are projected on to surfaces to form circles, drumhead like flat surface bands nestled inside of the circles are formed. The bulk node-line can evolve into 3D Dirac point in the absence of inversion symmetry, which has shown its plausible existence in recent experiments.
