In semi-supervised fuzzy clustering, this paper extends the traditional pairwise constraint (i.e., must-link or cannot-link) to fuzzy pairwise constraint. The fuzzy pairwise constraint allows a supervisor to provide the grade of similarity or dissimilarity between the implicit fuzzy vectors of a pair of samples. This constraint can present more complicated relationship between the pair of samples and avoid eliminating the fuzzy characteristics. We propose a fuzzy discriminant clustering model (FDC) to fuse the fuzzy pairwise constraints. The nonconvex optimization problem in our FDC is solved by a modified expectation-maximization algorithm, involving to solve several indefinite quadratic programming problems (IQPPs). Further, a diagonal block coordinate decent (DBCD) algorithm is proposed for these IQPPs, whose stationary points are guaranteed, and the global solutions can be obtained under certain conditions. To suit for different applications, the FDC is extended into various metric spaces, e.g., the Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space. Experimental results on several benchmark datasets and facial expression database demonstrate the outperformance of our FDC compared with some state-of-the-art clustering models.

To effectively optimize Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy systems for regression problems, a mini-batch gradient descent with regularization, DropRule, and AdaBound (MBGD-RDA) algorithm was recently proposed. This paper further proposes FCM-RDpA, which improves MBGD-RDA by replacing the grid partition approach in rule initialization by fuzzy c-means clustering, and AdaBound by Powerball AdaBelief, which integrates recently proposed Powerball gradient and AdaBelief to further expedite and stabilize parameter optimization. Extensive experiments on 22 regression datasets with various sizes and dimensionalities validated the superiority of FCM-RDpA over MBGD-RDA, especially when the feature dimensionality is higher. We also propose an additional approach, FCM-RDpAx, that further improves FCM-RDpA by using augmented features in both the antecedents and consequents of the rules.
The existence of large volumes of time series data in many applications has motivated data miners to investigate specialized methods for mining time series data. Clustering is a popular data mining method due to its powerful exploratory nature and it s usefulness as a preprocessing step for other data mining techniques. This article develops two novel clustering algorithms for time series data that are extensions of a crisp c-shapes algorithm. The two new algorithms are heuristic derivatives of fuzzy c-means (FCM). Fuzzy c-Shapes plus (FCS+) replaces the inner product norm in the FCM model with a shape-based distance function. Fuzzy c-Shapes double plus (FCS++) uses the shape-based distance, and also replaces the FCM cluster centers with shape-extracted prototypes. Numerical experiments on 48 real time series data sets show that the two new algorithms outperform state-of-the-art shape-based clustering algorithms in terms of accuracy and efficiency. Four external cluster validity indices (the Rand index, Adjusted Rand Index, Variation of Information, and Normalized Mutual Information) are used to match candidate partitions generated by each of the studied algorithms. All four indices agree that for these finite waveform data sets, FCS++ gives a small improvement over FCS+, and in turn, FCS+ is better than the original crisp c-shapes method. Finally, we apply two tests of statistical significance to the three algorithms. The Wilcoxon and Friedman statistics both rank the three algorithms in exactly the same way as the four cluster validity indices.
In this paper we prove that Neutrosophic Set (NS) is an extension of Intuitionistic Fuzzy Set (IFS) no matter if the sum of single-valued neutrosophic components is < 1, or > 1, or = 1. For the case when the sum of components is 1 (as in IFS), after applying the neutrosophic aggregation operators one gets a different result from that of applying the intuitionistic fuzzy operators, since the intuitionistic fuzzy operators ignore the indeterminacy, while the neutrosophic aggregation operators take into consideration the indeterminacy at the same level as truth-membership and falsehood-nonmembership are taken. NS is also more flexible and effective because it handles, besides independent components, also partially independent and partially dependent components, while IFS cannot deal with these. Since there are many types of indeterminacies in our world, we can construct different approaches to various neutrosophic concepts. Also, Regret Theory, Grey System Theory, and Three-Ways Decision are particular cases of Neutrosophication and of Neutrosophic Probability. We extended for the first time the Three-Ways Decision to n-Ways Decision, and the Spherical Fuzzy Set to n-HyperSpherical Fuzzy Set and to n-HyperSpherical Neutrosophic Set.
Pairwise clustering, in general, partitions a set of items via a known similarity function. In our treatment, clustering is modeled as a transductive prediction problem. Thus rather than beginning with a known similarity function, the function instea d is hidden and the learner only receives a random sample consisting of a subset of the pairwise similarities. An additional set of pairwise side-information may be given to the learner, which then determines the inductive bias of our algorithms. We measure performance not based on the recovery of the hidden similarity function, but instead on how well we classify each item. We give tight bounds on the number of misclassifications. We provide two algorithms. The first algorithm SACA is a simple agglomerative clustering algorithm which runs in near linear time, and which serves as a baseline for our analyses. Whereas the second algorithm, RGCA, enables the incorporation of side-information which may lead to improved bounds at the cost of a longer running time.
The cold dark matter (CDM) scenario has proved successful in cosmology. However, we lack a fundamental understanding of its microscopic nature. Moreover, the apparent disagreement between CDM predictions and subgalactic-structure observations has pro mpted the debate about its behaviour at small scales. These problems could be alleviated if the dark matter is composed of ultralight fields $m sim 10^{-22} text{eV}$, usually known as fuzzy dark matter (FDM). Some specific models, with axion-like potentials, have been thoroughly studied and are collectively referred to as ultralight axions (ULAs) or axion-like particles (ALPs). In this work we consider anharmonic corrections to the mass term coming from a repulsive quartic self-interaction. Whenever this anharmonic term dominates, the field behaves as radiation instead of cold matter, modifying the time of matter-radiation equality. Additionally, even for high masses, i.e. masses that reproduce the cold matter behaviour, the presence of anharmonic terms introduce a cut-off in the matter power spectrum through its contribution to the sound speed. We analyze the model and derive constraints using a modified version of CLASS and comparing with CMB and large-scale structure data.
