We have grown Cu$_2$OSeO$_3$ single crystals with an optimized chemical vapor transport technique by using SeCl$_4$ as a transport agent. Our optimized growth method allows to selectively produce large high quality single crystals. The method is shown to consistently produce Cu$_2$OSeO$_3$ crystals of maximum size 8 mm x 7 mm x 4 mm with a transport duration of around three weeks. We found this method, with SeCl$_4$ as transport agent, more efficient and simple compared to the commonly used growth techniques reported in literature with HCl gas as transport agent. The Cu$_2$OSeO$_3$ crystals have very high quality and the absolute structure are fully determined by simple single crystal x-ray diffraction. We observed both type of crystals with left- and right-handed chiralities. Our magnetization and ferromagnetic resonance data show the same magnetic phase diagram as reported earlier.

Magnetic skyrmions in chiral magnets are nanoscale, topologically-protected magnetization swirls that are promising candidates for spintronics memory carriers. Therefore, observing and manipulating the skyrmion state on the surface level of the mater ials are of great importance for future applications. Here, we report a controlled way of creating a multidomain skyrmion state near the surface of a Cu$_{2}$OSeO$_{3}$ single crystal, observed by soft resonant elastic x-ray scattering. This technique is an ideal tool to probe the magnetic order at the $L_{3}$ edge of $3d$ metal compounds giving a depth sensitivity of ${sim}50$ nm. The single-domain sixfold-symmetric skyrmion lattice can be broken up into domains overcoming the propagation directions imposed by the cubic anisotropy by applying the magnetic field in directions deviating from the major cubic axes. Our findings open the door to a new way to manipulate and engineer the skyrmion state locally on the surface, or on the level of individual skyrmions, which will enable applications in the future.
Anticrossing behavior between magnons in a non-collinear chiral magnet Cu$_2$OSeO$_3$ and a two-mode X-band microwave resonator was studied in the temperature range 5-100K. In the field-induced ferrimagnetic phase, we observed a strong coupling regim e between magnons and two microwave cavity modes with a cooperativity reaching 3600. In the conical phase, cavity modes are dispersively coupled to a fundamental helimagnon mode, and we demonstrate that the magnetic phase diagram of Cu$_2$OSeO$_3$ can be reconstructed from the measurements of the cavity resonance frequency. In the helical phase, a hybridized state of a higher-order helimagnon mode and a cavity mode - a helimagnon polariton - was found. Our results reveal a new class of magnetic systems where strong coupling of microwave photons to non-trivial spin textures can be observed.
Cu$_2$OSeO$_3$ is an insulating skyrmion-host material with a magnetoelectric coupling giving rise to an electric polarization with a characteristic dependence on the magnetic field $vec H$. We report magnetic force microscopy imaging of the helical real-space spin structure on the surface of a bulk single crystal of Cu$_2$OSeO$_3$. In the presence of a magnetic field, the helimagnetic order in general reorients and acquires a homogeneous component of the magnetization, resulting in a conical arrangement at larger fields. We investigate this reorientation process at a temperature of 10~K for fields close to the crystallographic $langle 110rangle$ direction that involves a phase transition at $H_{c1}$. Experimental evidence is presented for the formation of magnetic domains in real space as well as for the microscopic origin of relaxation events that accompany the reorientation process. In addition, the electric polarization is measured by means of Kelvin-probe force microscopy. We show that the characteristic field dependency of the electric polarization originates in this helimagnetic reorientation process. Our experimental results are well described by an effective Landau theory previously invoked for MnSi, that captures the competition between magnetocrystalline anisotropies and Zeeman energy.

We present an investigation of the magnetic field-temperature phase diagram of Cu$_2$OSeO$_3$ based on DC magnetisation and AC susceptibility measurements covering a broad frequency range of four orders of magnitude, from very low frequencies reachin g 0.1 Hz up to 1 kHz. The experiments were performed in the vicinity of $T_C=58.2$ K and around the skyrmion lattice A-phase. At the borders between the different phases the characteristic relaxation times reach several milliseconds and the relaxation is non-exponential. Consequently the borders between the different phases depend on the specific criteria and frequency used and an unambiguous determination is not possible.
We report small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) measurements of the skyrmion lattice in two 200~nm thick Cu$_2$OSeO$_3$ lamellae aligned with the applied magnetic field parallel to the out of plane [110] or [100] crystallographic directions. Our measur ements show that the equilibrium skyrmion phase in both samples is expanded significantly compared to bulk crystals, existing between approximately 30 and 50~K over a wide region of magnetic field. This skyrmion state is elliptically distorted at low fields for the [110] sample, and symmetric for the [100] sample, possibly due to crystalline anisotropy becoming more important at this sample thickness than it is in bulk samples. Furthermore, we find that a metastable skyrmion state can be observed at low temperature by field cooling through the equilibrium skyrmion pocket in both samples. In contrast to the behavior in bulk samples, the volume fraction of metastable skyrmions does not significantly depend on cooling rate. We show that a possible explanation for this is the change in the lowest temperature of the skyrmion state in this lamellae compared to bulk, without requiring different energetics of the skyrmion state.
